TOPIC: The Secessionville Bridge

The Secessionville Bridge 9 months, 3 weeks ago #1

Little Powell:

Here is all the information I can find about the bridge from the mainland to Secessionville.

The Bridge is called Hatch's Bridge. I do not know when it was built, but it was undoubtedly in place before the Battle of Secessionville, as the OR mentions it.

It likely began at the end of the road in Secessionville: (Where the dashed line meets the water)

Here is a rough example of where it probably was:

And here is where I think it's start and endpoints were:

I do not know what exactly it looks like or how long it is either. In the bullrunnings article, the author writes that on the mainland, it starts almost right next to his brother's house (wherever that is).

Hope this helps. Will keep searching.

Excellent, this will be a great help. Looks like I will also need to add in that road on the Secessionville peninsula (that more than likely led to the bridge).

Like I mentioned before, got lots of other things on my plate right now but I will get to the bridge before too long.

Thanks Hancock.

It's interesting that the map Hancock refers to mentions it as a "foot bridge". That would imply it was not passable to wheeled vehicles so presumably it was either very narrow, like a plank bridge or a very light structure.

Can the game handle a route that is passable by infantry but not other units?

No, all units can follow the road paths.

I will make it very narrow, just wide enough for infantry so if someone does decide to wheel arty down it, it will look very odd.
