Patch 1.4 can be found here:
www.norbsoftware.com/Downloads/SOWGB_PatchVer1_4.exe

Changes:
Version 1.4

New Features

* We now use a texture packing technology to help increase performance.
* A new graphics option can be invoked from the sowgb.ini file. Under the [Initialization] section you may add a line mipmaps=# where # can equal -1, 0, or any positive number from 1 to 5 inclusive. A setting of -1 may improve performance on some systems where settings of 1 or higher may increase the sharpness of the unit sprites and terrain graphics.
* A new button has been added on the toolbar that brings up the Courier menu.
* An additional new button has been added that shows the courier messages sent.
* There is now a Sprite Ratio Game Option. This setting adjusts the number of troop sprites displayed per man for all game modes. The default is 0 which uses the default setting of four troop sprites representing one man.
* A new Additional Battles screen has been added.
* Sandbox play has been improved by adding a much larger score limit. It is now possible to set the number of Objectives, time limit, and points awarded.
* The dumpoobscen command now adds the Unit ID's to the scenario.csv that is outputed.
* The default Score Limit in Sandbox games has been increased from 8000 to 20000 so games won't end so early.
* Couriers now spawn down the OOB chain of command. If you order a corps general to move, he will then order the divisional generals, and they will in turn order brigadier generals.
* New 'brigade' level couriers have been added which result in couriers being sent to each regiment or battery.
* A distance check for issuing courier orders by toolbar in SP has been added. If the recipient is within a short distance, no message will be sent.
* At high realism courier settings, all toolbar division & brigade formations now work within the courier system.
* Added a limit to the number of couriers spawned after courier death. It is now only one per human player, and editable in the Options section of the sowbg.ini file for AI player. Command is: NumAICouriers=2
* We have added new command for the debug section of the sowgb.ini file that automatically writes the game DB files at the end of a battle. Command is: AutoGameDB=1

Bug Fixes

* Ammo wagons now use the artillery sprite ratio so ammo wagon troop strength is not affected by sprite ratio changes.
* The command line entry prompt no longer appears while writing a courier message or using chat in the multiplayer lobby.
* A bug has been fixed where receiving a courier message in multiplayer causes any message you are working on to close and all typed text is lost.
* New courier commands have been added for detach/attach subordinates so that it is now working properly in courier messages.
* The Square formation has been edited so the third quadrant releative to the commander is aligned correctly.
* A bug has been corrected where brigades would start moving before their commanders received their courier messages.
* Form up orders are now based on destination rather than unit location when the order is received.
* Killed couriers no longer spawn repeatedly.
* Troops now repond to courier orders to march at double time.
* The game no longer crashes when hitting enter during lobby chat
* A bug has been eliminated where if you tried to issue a 'move to this map point' order by courier, but then changed your mind and clicked 'remove last' from courier order, the map stayed up on screen with no close box. If you clicked on the map, the game crashed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.3

* More improvements to multiplayer to help prevent hangs and crashes.
* A bug that would cause units to intermittently disappear when panning the camera has been fixed.
* A MP lobby bug that caused the game to crash when hitting the enter key in room chat while not in a room has been fixed.
* Scores for GB19 will now register.
* A bug in Historical Difficulty that caused TC'd brigades to ignore movement orders sent by courier has been fixed.
* A bug that caused the command line entry prompt to appear in the chat window at the top left of the screen during chat has been fixed.
* A bug that allowed units out of Line of Sight to be seen has been repaired.
* Now when you create a user account in Multiplayer, you go straight to the lobby.
* Changing illumination from day to night is now available in scenario scripting. See the SDK for more information.
* It is now possible to load saved games in Demo mode.

Norb, is this a Beta version or is it the Stable Release?

Not so stable, there are some log errors that we need to fix, but they should not prevent you from playing.

Seems to work fine Norb. I even figured out the issue I was having on the sandbox screen. If you deactivate any mods before you exit the game, and activate them for use after start up, it resolves the "not found" issue in sandbox. Just be sure to activate after start-up and deactivate before exiting the game, and, as far as i can tell, all mods run as designed in game.

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any body of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. – Noah Webster

Norb/Team,

So far no joy. Getting error message saying "this file contains invalid data." Very odd - the Beta 1.4 patch had no problem.

Same here as well.

Patch size is unusually small at 768kb considering beta was 250mb then 192mb.

Is it the file or something my pc or anti virus is doing?

Anyway, bought the map pack but will wait until I can download patch official release.

Thanks for the efforts on this outstanding game.

Many cheers

Just two questions.

Is the Alternate download THE stable fixed release (with fix)? or do I need to also download the fix?

I must be missing something here. Has the link in the first post been updated to the newest fixed patch or do I need to download the fix as well?

Re: Scourge of War Patch 1.4 2 years, 6 months ago #14

If you've already downloaded the full 1.4 patch, you'll only need the fix.

I haven't downloaded 1.4 patch yet. I understand that it still needs a little fix - is that right? I think this is what Michael is also asking.

If it still needs fixing, I'm not sure whether to download patch now and tinker or wait til it's fixed and download then. Is the latter going to be a question of hours or days, do you think?

Thanks,

Jeff

Everything is fixed now. If you grabbed the 1.4 patch yesterday you only need the fix. If you have never downloaded the 1.4 patch before, you just need the 1.4 patch because it also contains the fix.

So I can use this to patch my game that is bought and stored on Impulse, or will you be transferring the Patch files to GameStop so they can upload them for the game (mine is 1.3 on their service).

We only have 1 version of the game. We cannot support anymore than 1 So the patch will work no matter where you bought it.

I even figured out the issue I was having on the sandbox screen. If you deactivate any mods before you exit the game, and activate them for use after start up, it resolves the "not found" issue in sandbox.

If the mod doesn't have a mscreen file assigned to it, it should be alright.

That is the only file that I have found to cause the Not Found error for the Sandbox Thing.

Nice job boys!

Downloaded 1.4 tonight without a hitch, purchased the Antietam game and everything installed smoothly. Then I was off to the west woods and cornfield for a few quick brigade scenarios. Awesome stuff, and all for $20.

Take a bow fellas.

Regards, CJ.

P.S. Hope someone is working on a union mod where McLellan falls off his horse on the night before the first day of the battle and then passes away.

Thanks for the tech check D.

Downloaded the patch from here, however there is now a patch on Impulse that when downloaded wrecks the activation code.
The two patches are obviously incompatible.

Why do you say it wrecks the activation code? Nothing in the patch nor full installers touches any activation saved.

Correct. You will need patch 1.4 or Antietam will not run correctly.

Antietam... fantastic battle, leapt at the chance to buy it.

Seemed to install okay, as did 1.4 - however no luck in getting it to load.

I can *see* the mods and have selected them, I can *see* the background in the main screen with Scourge of War: Gettysburg, Pipe Creek and Antietam.

I'm not getting an 'other battles button' though the Pipe Creek scenarios are showing in my 'user created scenarios' menu. No sign of Antietam battles of any description.

From what I can see I seem to be the only person having this problem - have tried reinstalling 1.4 and again it all seems okay, but no sign of the access to Antietam.

Any other thoughts, gentlemen?

Am about to try deselecting all the mods and seeing if this helps.

Scratch that last - it appears complaining is the charm with computer programs too (I hate retail).

By deselecting my mods and restarting the game, all appears good now - button and all.

Now to sink my teeth in what promises to be a lovely new array of scenarios!
