  • I'm going to make an additional sprite for the game for download. I want to have a vote on the most popular so could you please list a sprite you would like to see - it could be infantry, artillery, cavalry or a personality. I will only make one and there will be a warning that it may affect performance especially on older pcs.

So list what you want to see in order of preference below - if people have put it before its fine to repeat so I can at least get a rough idea of most popular. At the weekend I will create a vote of 10 based on ones mentioned most and/or ones I fancy doing (benevolent despot that I am)! So put your favourites in a reply below be it Prince of Orange, Brunswick Uhlans, Mamluks, Swiss Infantry, Chasseurs a cheval of the guard etc. It must be someone who was at Waterloo. We will then all vote and I'll make the most popular.

  • Guard Chasseurs a Cheval

2nd Swiss Regiment would be nice too, though.

    Or Dutch-Belgian Jaegers...

  • Thanks for the ideas - I'm going to put up the vote now. Maybe a forgone conclusion but you never know. I'll probably add in a few ideas I had myself.

The pictures you posted are interesting Saddletank and show the difficulty in getting uniforms 'right' as they have a number of differences between them.

Yes, well spotted. The first picture is Russia 1812 I think. The dark grey/green breeches with the twin gold stripe are probably fatigue overalls, or an undress uniform, worn here for simple comfort. They also have their foul weather capes rolled and folded across their chests Confederate infantry style. And they're wearing their pelisses. They must be enduring spells of bad or cold weather.

The smaller pic shows the cream tight pantaloons that were more dressy but less practical, no rolled capes and rather brighter more orangey pelisses (worn loose) though the dull colour of the first pic could well be an artistic choice to show dull light conditions.

In addition gold shabraque lace/edging vs scarlet. Hm.

I don't know that the Chasseurs rode greys as the second pic shows, I thought they went for a mix of bays and chestnuts.

As you say, its often tricky. At least there's dozens of picture and text references for these dudes.

  • I tend to go with this website as it seems well researched and gives lots of variations.

  • I voted for Landwehr Cavalry. A very unpopular choice, but I did it on the basis that there were so many of them. A whopping 25 squadrons at Waterloo, and still more at Wavre. In terms of sheer numbers, I think that's the biggest gap.

Not as sexy as the Chasseur a cheval, I agree :)

Perhaps not as unpopular as you think. I would have given a vote to Prussian Landwehr Cavalry too. I hadn't even noticed they were missing, as I haven't played as the Prussians yet, and I agree that it is a big omission. I'd would also like to have voted for the Dutch-Belgian Jaegers, Brunswick Uhlans (et al).

Gendarmes d'Elite and Mamelukes I can live without, as their numbers were so small anyway, although I certainly wouldn't object if they were put in. In the end my vote went to the Chasseurs a Cheval of the Guard. As a Francophile, seeing them in the relatively drab uniform of their line counterparts is just too much. This Swiss infantry would be nice just for the fun of seeing red-coated French troops.
