Maybe, someone should contact the creator of the scenario generator mod
and ask him how to add the 10 mile map to the scenario generator or to the next release?

    Hi Bob64
thanks for your interest in the Scenario Generator. You are right, it only supports 2.5x2.5 and 5x5 mile maps at this time. As long as there is only one 10x10 mile map available I refrain from adding all formulas to support it.
I know the following idea will not help a lot, but you could still add it to the list of maps like a 5x5 mile map, and then you could at least play on the top left quarter of the map... ;)
    Regards

  • I found a go around using Open office, now it's just a matter of learning how to use the Generator. The problem with the go around is that I don't know what I did. If I figure it out I'll share it.

  • I was considering buying Excel so if Open office works as it looks now that it will, it's a money saver. I tried to use it before with the Generator to no avail, but last night in a sleepy haze I did whatever I did and it appeared, was getting a blank screen and message.

  • I also have OpenOffice, but I couldn't get its macros to work. And I strongly doubt that Excel macros will work in OpenOffice.

I haven't had the chance to work with it yet but I'll let you know. I did get the Macros for Open Office enabled but before, that is where it would stop. I would think if it didn't work for you, it probably will not work, as I said earlier I have no idea what I did.

  • Just a note to thank Leefe7 for this really useful system. For an amateur modder it's great. And of course you can copy the scenario into a Mods folder and tweak it further.

I had to upgrade excel from the Open Office version, but 2010 was reasonably cheap.

    Great work. Thanks again. :cheer:

  • Any way we could get the 1862 Peninsular OOB Mod added to the generator? Having a blast playing with that OOB just in sandbox but would like to be able to create some different scenarios for us to play.

  • Hi 2ndAcr

you can load your Peninsular OOB as the "Custom OOB", and as long as you don't overwrite it with another custom OOB it will stay. BTW, couriers will be added automatically to every OOB.

  • Thanks a bunch, good to know it will stay there until I unload it etc. The 2 OOB I found were before I started playing with the Generator, when I opened the OOB, no courier was listed for these 2 OOb's for the union but was for the Rebs. Rebs courier worked normal, Union had none zip nada.

I am slowly getting the hang of your generator, fantastic tool. Main thing on my plate right now is learning to decipher the logs so I can try to hunt down our random massive game lag. Can play same sandbox game with same folks, same settings all on fresh re-boots and one game will run clean as a whistle the next it might lag so bad you think it was a lock up.

  • Hi guys,

I just wanted to say that I'm working on a small update to the Scenario Generator.
    - More minimaps: Adding all the Red River Campaign maps. I will also include the 10 mile maps (but the grid will still be 5x5 sectors, so they will be quite large).
    - New supply wagon toggle: IMHO the scenarios sometimes include too many supply wagons and these might spoil a hidden flanking manouvre, so I will add a toggle to disable all supply wagons from a scenario.
    - OOBs: The Napoleonic OOBs will be upgraded to make them compatible to the KS Napoleon mod 1.65.

    Regards

  • Love the Scenario Generator now that I got a good hang of using it. Quick question, we played a scenario I built last night, one of my players would like to play the scenario again in solo mode, I created a folder to transfer all the battle files to him (copied them into new folder) but any clue where he might put the files to make them playable for him?

Or will he need to download the scenario generator and then copy those files into it's folder?

  • He needs to put your scenario folder in the \Work\Scenarios folder. The folder you send him must have the 6 files the scenario generator creates; battlescript.csv, intro.txt, maplocations.csv, scenario.ini, scenario.csv and screen.txt.

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

  • Cool, thanks. I been messing with it trying to figure out where to put her. Thought of adding her to the Bonus Scenario pack from the mods. I opened those up and saw what files needed to go in. Just could not figure out the exact folder.

    Thanks much

  • YES you can add 10 mile map to the Scenario Generator, and am to assume any other map you wish. One must have Excel, a part of the Microsoft office package. Or have someone with Excel edit generator ,then load edited generator from them. With Permission of Creator.

  • Hello, Leffe7!

You guys just blow me away with your talents and imagination!

Forgive me for a small nit-pick, but I thought you'd want to know: Please correct the spelling of "Cemetary" on the Gettysburg map example above, it should read - Cemetery. If it's already been corrected, than my apologies for missing the correction.

Thanks for a great effort by the entire NSD Team.

  • Jugjock - Leffe7 makes this tool entirely in his own time. He created it before he joined the NSD team and is improving it as a community tool - not an NSD tool ;)

  • Saddletank - Thanks for pointing out Leffe7's effort. I'm new to SOW and didn't realize he was solely responsible for the scenario generator; a generous gift to us all. Thank you, Leffe7!

  • @Jugjock: You're welcome!

I originally designed the Scenario Generator for the MP games I play. Often it was very uncertain to know how much players are playing, so a given scenario might not fit. So 1) I wanted an easy way of adding more units to a scenario. 2) Players often had preferences like "only infantry", or "a small division with artillery", so the Generator allows to choose the unit types. And 3) I wanted to set the starting positions of the armies on the map. The use of 25 sectors is not perfect, but it allows to wage war on parts of the excellent existing maps you would miss out if you only use the stock sandbox deployments.

These are the errors I get:

    12:00:00 Graphic not found GFX_ARTY_FLAG
12:00:00 Flag not found while loading unit: 8-livres #1|FR_HORSE_ART_GUNLIMBERED_1

    sometimes:

    12:00:00 Graphic not found GFX_ARTY_FLAG
12:00:00 Flag not found while loading unit: 6-libbre #1|FR_ART_GUNLIMBERED_1

    any thoughts?

  • It looks as if you do not have the latest KS Napoleon mod. It is currently version 1.705. You can find it here: KS Napoleon Mod 1.705 The links are in the 1st post.

  • There have been quite a few users having trouble downloading from Norbsoft's server in recent weeks, me included. NSD are aware of the problem but can't replicate it though the sheer number of site members having difficulty seems to point to a server problem.

All I can suggest is keep trying, perhaps at different times of the day.

I've uploaded it to my MediaFire account for you:

    www.mediafire.com/download/956avj9s4x29yjz/^^_SCENARIO_GENERATOR_^^.7z

Unzip it into your scenarios folder (found in work folder).

In there, there is a Word document which will give you excellent instructions.

This really is an great tool for putting together scenarios.

    Thanks again to Leffe7
