    Great Addition!

Been looking forward to a GB map large enough to include the East Cavalry Field actions as well as other engagements that occurred on the outskirts of the main battle.

I've only done one fly around checking out the main battle arena and all the details appear right on. The terrain is nicely done with lots of historically accurate fencing and especially, stone walls. This map has the appearance of being a catalyst for reawakening the battle of GB for further modding.

Thanks for giving this game a bionic boost with this, and your other excellent offerings :)

MarkT - Excellent Job on the Gettysburg Map!

Forty thousand worm fences have got to be a record for any map.

Question - Why did You make them so low to the ground - is that how tall they were during that period?

It took Me two days of looking at the code to figure out which values controlled the height, and use a Hex-Editor to change all of them to a higher value, doing them by hand would have took a year. Hex-Editor less than a minute.

    Either way, Great Job!

    "MarkT"

The "terrain.lvl" that is located inside of all of the Maps.lsl file contains all of the terrain, houses, and fences that are within the maps files.

Basically, this file stores all of the values used, the downside is that a lot of it is in Hex-Form, which is not readable to anyone that doesn't know Programming.

Well, I don't have any knowledge of Hex-Code - but do like too experiment considering that nothing can actually be destroyed, only probably corrupted. But, Backups come in handy.

The other downside is that by changing all of the values that "Match" the values that are changed, anything that "Also" has those same values will also be changed.

So, I still have to go back and redo the "Rail Fences" since it raised them up in height also, but better them than the forty thousand other fences.

The length, height, width of the fences were : These are the values that you used.
    A0 40 00 00 80 40 00 00 80 40

I wanted the height a little bit higher : So the Hex-Code used is:
    A0 40 00 00 A0 40 00 00 80 40

Once I put in the values that you used, I put in the values that I wanted and selected "Replace All" matching values with the other values. Forty Thousand values changed within a few seconds.

ADDED - I also think that Hex-Code uses ( Four Sets of Values ) - So, I probably should have used ( 00 00 ) at the end of the above listed code, but didn't and it still worked. It seems like I read that decades ago, but not sure.

Experimenting with the "Sachs Bridge" - Raised it up a bit, added some shadow triangles, another roof that resembles the picture and changed the color a bit.

Yes the terrain.lvl is the save file. I have had to redo things many times, (from scratch) many time because the LStudio program is "dumbed Down" and will not allow global change (of course we both know this).

As far as the fences height go, I am not aware that the height is low. Split rail "worm" fences are generally boundry features, not actual fences. The higher you build them, the more unstable they are. A basic "rail" is approx. 4" diameter. a 5-6 rail height is approx 44" (more or Less) (mostly less). 3 to 4 feet is not too high.
"Perfect" rail fences did not exist like they do today. LOTS of variation....

What Hex editor do you use?

Goggle that Name listed above, it has a 32bit and a 64bit Version.

Not sure if it works past Windows 7, but you should be able to find that information out of the Web.

Not even sure if its the best Free One out there, but it is the only one that I have use for years.

    ..........................................................................................................
    EDIT Post:

Have any of You Map Makers figure out a way of stopping the units from walking through the Sachs Bridge walls. I have spent about ten hours trying different things but nothing seems to work.

Making the town of Gettysburg more fightable that helps the AI maneuver better.

Placing Names on all of the parts of the Battlefield that have become known after the battle.

Raising some of the buildings and houses up to the height of the men.

Other parts of the map will show the position of the terrain from the town of Gettysburg, such as North, South, East, or West.

Adding two and a quarter more "Fictional" miles to "MarkT" Gettysburg Map.

Looking South along the Taneytown road.

Looking East along the Hanover road.... EDIT Post - I think that this is the "York Pike" next to the train tracks.

The new terrain can "only" be added to the South and East of an existing Map without changing the height of the current terrain.

View of the current terrain that is not affected by adding to an existing Map.

    ................................................................................................
    ................................................................................................
Updated Pictures of the previous two pictures.
Looking South along the Taneytown road.

Looking East along the York Pike and the Railroad tracks.

The Emmitsburg road didn't line up correctly, probably have to fix this!

Martin - How is everything going!

I think that the biggest hit towards the game is still the "Road Marching Calculations".

I did experiment with a "Twenty Mile Map" once and the game didn't crash, but the FPS were extremely-low, and that was before adding anything to it, such as fences and houses.

SO, not sure where the limit actually is, but I can still enjoy the game with very low FPS and it doesn't bother Me. Some Players complain about the FPS, I am not among them.

While I'm on line, I thought I'd like to express my thanks to all of the skilled creators of the Mods. I like SOWGB. I like it better the Napoleonic game. I enjoy reading all the comments. Except for a few stalwarts,I'm sorry there seem to be so few interested players any more.

The union first tried a mass assault on the center near the town of Gettysburg.

With very little gain they then move units over to the extreme left.

When that failed they moved a very large force on a round about to out flank my forces.

Three Brigades must hold until help arrives.

Couriers have been sent to all available units too move the right to assist in holding back this assault.

I'd say that was a bit too golden.

Some pics here when we were discussing the same thing.

Your colour however would work well if you wanted to set a battle in low angle of sun conditions (dawn, early evening).

Thanks again for the great map.

Just curious, why did you eliminate Pardee Field and its stone wall from Culp's Hill, and several more stone walls from areas like Cemetery Ridge?

I'm not complaining, just wondering why the decisions were made. Thanks!
