  • I can't figure out how and where I'm supposed to install the Cent Jours and 1800 campaigns. I put the m in Mods folder. I get a crash and "Level not found" note. I could use your expertise. Thanks

  • Levle not found usually is linked to a map not found. When happened the crash? loading a battle or at the game execution. check the Sowwl.log file

  • Mitra,
Thanks for your quick response. I solved both of my installation errors. They were both caused by my not reading all the information and not bothering to activate the necessary map mod.
    Thanks

  • I don't know how I did it, but having downloaded the new Les Cent...My game crashes as soon as press the .exe. I installed the first version without problem. The new one I downloaded, unzipped, disabled the old Cent folder and placed the new folder in the Mods folder. The new one didn't appear in the Mods folder, so I figured it installed itself in the disabled Cent folder and re-enabled it. Since then nothing but crashes. I confess, I didn't understand with the contents of the SOWWL_Manager. I cut and pasted the contents in the game folder.

  • The new version substitutes the old one, so you can delete the old mod directory. SOWWL_Manager is the directory of carryover software, there's an installer inside but is not relevant for the working of mod itself. Do you have other mods actives at the same time?

  • I appreciate your quick response.
I deleted the Cent.. from my mods folder and the the SOWWL_Manager.exe and the SOWWL_Manager.exe.config from the game. Then I unzipped the new Cent... and pasted it in my mods folder and left the two SOWWL_Manager inside the Cent... folder.
Still no game. After I press the SOWWL.exe shortcut, the screen first entirely black and then reduces to a 1/3 sized black square, and the game is crashed.
Yes, I do have other mods activated, but I cant tell which since the game crashes. Besides, the first Cent... worked fine with the mods I had activated.
Another thing I noticed. I had a copy of the mod folder, and when the game first crashed, I switched mod folders. It made no difference and the game crashed.

  • I'm back again.
The problem was with a NVIDIA update. All my games are working again but Waterloo. I think it has to do with the File Manager.
Before I realized the graphics problem, I monkeyed (in the true sense of the word) with I found it in the game folder and got rid of it. I figured once it was gone, I could replace it with the File Manager folder in the Cent download.
    So what, exactly do I do with the File Manager folder? I open it; I unzip the file;
    1. I find "requirements text," open it what 4.7.2 of.Net Framework." I don't know where, what or how of it.
    2. Next I find "setup.exe." Does that replace the current setup.exe in my game folder?
    3. Thirdly, "Setup.msi." What does it do, and where does it go?
    4. I unzip SOWWL_Manager. and The Cent.. folder appears with the SOWWL folder inside that.

I'm no longer sure what I should do. What I have done in place the uzipped Cent folder in the games'"Mods" folder.
What happens is the game starts. I appears as the Cent... version. I activate it and proceed to open the first scenario from the Sandlot, select an Austrian division. It opens. About 20 seconds later, the game crashes.
None of this was a problem. As you might surmised, I've confused myself.
What should I do? I would be grateful for your help.

  • The subdirectory SOWWL_Manager contains sthe carryover software, is irrelevant for play the mod, ignore the files inside. Check the SOWWL.log file inside the game directory under documents after a crash, usually the reasons for crash appear here.

  • I am getting a CTD with every attempt to get a sandbox campaign launched with the LCJ mod activated and attempting to use that OOB for the campaign. This is happening with no other mods activated. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any suggestions if you are not experiencing the issue? Thank you in advance.

I thought I would further clarify: It appears that the Sandbox Campaign engine is unhappy with some of the new Austrian formations. Here is a portion of the log file:

    08:00:00
    loading: GFX_WUR_ArtTrain_01m_Walk
    08:00:00
    loading: GFX_WUR_ArtTrain_01m_Stand
    08:00:00
    loading: GFX_WUR_ArtTrain_01m_Run
    08:00:00 Formation not found: DRIL_Lvl4_Inf_Div_Col_Btn_AU
    08:00:00 BAD FORMATION ID: -1
    08:00:00 Formation not found: DRIL_Lvl4_Inf_Div_Col_Btn_AU

Have others experienced this when attempting the LCJ OOB in the Sandbox Campaign mode? Thank you in advance.

  • I'm not sure but I think the sandbox campaign part of game doesn't read the mod drills file, so it cannot see the new formations of austrian

Thank you Mitra and sorry for the late reply (internet issues). Keep us posted if any solutions arise - would love to use this corps in an Allied sandbox campaign!

Thank you for all of your efforts in bringing LCJ - I love the maps and the new allied OOBs - gorgeous maps!

  • Ive started uploading the videos for the full battles of Le Souffel. The French version is first and part 1 is already up. Mitra, I really have to say, you and your mod team really out did yourselves here. The Les Cent Jours scenarios are some of the most well crafted scenarios out of all the SOW Waterloo series, and this one felt like the crowning achievement of them all. It kept even me on my toes the whole time, not an easy thing to do with me.

  • Hey guys.
    I know I'm a bit late...
But I wanna say that with the latest revision of this awesome mod, La Souffel map is simply gorgeous!
Thanks to the creators from my side too. ;)

P.S. As a tribute to your work, a (very) rough implementation of waving grass. :silly:

  • Thank you Conor. :)
But it's really a little pebble compared to the mountain of Crikey's work on this map...
And no, no new threads from me yet.
You know, that would look a bit pointless since I can't share anything.
I'm going to comply with the instructions given here by Davide during last summer (wait for Norb or Jim, basically).

Just a quick question out of curiosity.
Is it just me or the fences objects (D_fences.pro I think?), placed around the La Souffel level's towns, make the framerate drop by an unusually high amount (5-8 fps)?
    That sounds very odd.
I mean considering their apparently low geometrical and shading complexity.
And there aren't many of them drawn on whatever scene either...
Nearby buildings seem to have an almost insignificant impact instead, for example.

    Thanks again.
    Ciao. ;)

  • Nevermind. All is clear now.
I was kinda wrong about that fence complexity.
It looks like several "dynamic" (LOD) instances of a >2000 faces object shouldn't really be considered as "low-poly" in the context of our old PR engine friend. :side:
    Lesson learned.
The bottleneck caused by PowerRender::CNorbRend is quite gratuitous anyway imho.
It'd appear like yet another easy gain.
I'll maybe try to work around it...
Or replace fences with a 2D alpha textured rectangle?

That is quite Impressive looking terrain, I like the moving grass and the trees.

Regarding the fences, I have never know them to create a FPS problem, the maps can hold more than 40,000 of them without any loss of frames.

Try to make sure that there are no duplicate fences stacked on top of each other, by moving one out of place to see if another one is behind it.

  • Well, same happening here Conor.
But I gained about 12-15 fps by re-engineering the entire vegetation drawing system...
And then losing at least 5 for a situation like this, believe me, that's a thing that really eat you!

I'm going to follow Davinci's tip and see if I can isolate the problem a little futher without resorting to my usual caveman methods... ;)

Can you post that fence that you created here, the file size shouldn't be that large.

Basically, the fence.tga, the pro. file, the pro.lod and the ls file.

  • Hey Dav. :)
Please, couldn't you take a look at those files from the first message's download link?
    D_Fence.pro is packed inside FY2.dat.
I'd prefer not uploading single parts of the mod without authors's permission, if possible.
I'm keeping that as a last resort option anyway. ;)
    Sorry.
Funny thing is the same view renders at 75fps on the highly inefficient Landscape Studio tool.
I see that Norb tried to bring some batching techniques for 3D models into the engine at the time.
But in special situations like the above-mentioned, I think the cure was almost worse than the disease!
    Ciao!
