I've got it to the point where it's useful and (for me at least) hasn't had problems doing the basic stuff. I haven't put in many advanced features yet, but you can drag/drop and edit the units, and from my tests the resulting OOBs do work in game.

Some important notes:
1. I can't guarantee that the editor will load any OOB you've made by hand, because if you made mistakes in the unit organization numbers, the editor can't foresee them. However it DOES work with OOB posted above, so if you want to be safe you can use that.

2. When I make an update to this, it will let you know when you run it, and you'll get the option to automatically upgrade. This way I can release it now, and you only need to download it once, after that you'll get my updates automatically.

Change Log (newest changes first):
:pinch: Warning: Spoiler!

***** Original Post: *****

To make OOB editing easier, with functionality that spreadsheets and my csv editor don't offer, I'm making an OOB editor, using a tree structure. It already supports drag & drop, copy/paste and such. One of the best parts is that when you save the OOB, it automatically writes out the organizational numbers for each unit, so you can simply drag a brigade from one division to another, and when you save, it will work right away without having to edit all those little numbers.

As I continue working on it I'll come up with more ways to speed up oob creation and make it less tedious. Any good ideas you have about what would make life easier as an oob author, let me know and I might add it in.

I made a csv editor that looks just like waredit but has a lot more features, which can be downloaded here.

That's the TC2M version, I have an updated version for this game that I haven't got around to releasing yet.

The first version of this is ready for people to try. It's not finished, but it does work (at least for me), so try it if you want to. There's bound to be bugs, so let me know when you find them.

Please let me know what features/changes you think are most important that it doesn't have yet after you try it. There's endless things I want to make it do, but I want to do the important things first.

The OOB editor seems to work really good for creating OOBs for the sandbox. One thing I would like to see developed is an editor that creates the OOB layout for scenario use, being that the scenario OOB has a slightly different layout. I do not know if this is a practicle idea for you or not but I thought I would suggest it. I ran the OOB I am working on through the editor and created a new scenario OOB based off of it. I am ready to test the scenario now and see if I have eliminated my CTD problem.

Actually it may be very easy to have an "export as scenario OOB" button. I haven't looked at the scenario layout thoroughly but as I recall it's all the same information just rearranged.

OK I added export as scenario options in the File menu. If you run the editor it should update for you automatically.

Note, you can't reopen the scenario-exported OOBs in this editor. I'll probably do that too later, though it is more complicated to be able to switch between two file formats that contain different information without losing the information.. The main thing is to be able to easily export the master oob you're working on as a scenario.

To edit the location and direction x/y values on the exported scenario, for now use my csv editor GEditCSV or whatever other program you use. GEditCSV has lots of useful editing functions that this EditOOB doesn't have.

Here's what editing the loc/dir values in GEditCSV looks like:

Let me know if there are any issues or things I should do differently with the scenario exporting, because I've never made scenarios myself so I don't know everything about it.

Ready for a test play. Put the scenario OOB together fairly quick. Have to do some moving around and deleting of the layout of the columns but it is a faster way none the less.

If the exported OOB is not layed out properly for a scenario, if you could explain how it should be done I can fix it easily.

The Brickyard scenario.csv file shows the layout of the columns. Mainly,It differs in that there are fewer columns than the master OOB

scenario.csv column names:

Name,ID,SIDE,ARMY,CORPS,DIV,BGDE,REG,AMMO,dir x,dir z,loc x,loc z,Formation,Head Count,Fatigue,Morale

Master OOB Column names:

Name,ID,NAME1,NAME2,SIDE,ARMY,CORPS,DIV,BGDE,REG,CLASS,PORTRAIT,Weapon,AMMO ,FLAGS,FLAG2,Formation,Head Count,Ability,Command,Control,Leadership,Style,Experience,Fatigue,Morale,Close,Open,Edged,Firearm,Marksmanship,Horsemanship,Surgeon,Calisthenics

Getting the unit information from the Master OOB to show up in the corresponding columns of the Scenario.csv file would be the trick to do I would think. If it worked you might only have to do a small amount of hand editing to finish it out but it would save an enormous amount of time.

Excellent. That is a great little file to see produced. Will certainly save some time. Now if you could just get it to produce some default dir x,dir z,loc x,loc z, coordinates.

It produces "default" zeroes in each of those spots.

Explain how you go about setting those numbers up and I may figure out a way to help automate it.

I will have to look through my TC2M scenario files to find an example. There is a very simple way for TC2M using only 0's and 1's. Puts all the units stacked up together on the edge of the map. Not sure if that would work for SOW without crashing.

Here it is.

,dir x,dir z,loc x,loc z,
1 0 1 1

Where : dir x =1
dir z =0
loc x =1
loc z =1

Yes....... it appears to work in SOW. The scenario.csv file is kind of tricky to work with.
Will still have to do some slight hand editing to get it to work.

What exactly do you have to change to make it work? If its similar stuff every time, it most likely can be done automatically. I'll change the location numbers from 0,0,0,0, to 1,0,1,1,

Kind of hard to explain. Maybe it has to do with the Substitute commanders in the Master OOB. For example in the Brickyard scenario.csv Howard is listed as the top federal Commander. Compared to its Master OOB which has Meade listed as top commander.
I still am not sure of all the different ways that will work.

I see.

Well I could implement substitute commanders, by having multiple units tied to the same node on the tree, and you can pick which one will show up when exporting as a scenario. That shouldn't be too complicated, I'll see.

For now I've added the rest of the scenario file header and changed the location numbers, so hopefully you can export a scenario and have it work in game, even if the commanders are not historically accurate?
