I think you need to follow ADukes suggestion and delete that Registry entry as that's where it's hanging up.

under Hkey_Local_Machine file Software file NorbSoftDev in the registry there are two files one is Demo
the other is SOWGBDemo

both have a default Reg_SZ (value not set)
second line InstallDir Reg_SZ c:\NorbSoftDev\Scourge of War - Demo

I get that the second line is the problem but am not sure if both the files should exist or whether you want me to delete both lines or both files or one of the files (ie demo file or SOWGBDemo file)

In the tree view on the left side select NorbSoftDev and delete it (right click or DEL key).

Ok ADukes - I backed up the registry and deleted the norsoftdev and then rebooted and reinstalled SOWDemo - no dice though it still crashes to desktop after a 1/2 second of black screen.

At least I learned a lit bit about working with the registry along the way and did not mess it up.

Hope you gentlemen have another idea in your arsenal to try?

Give this a try as I have seen it in the past and is worth a shot :


Change the name of the .mov in the Movie folder
Maybe the music files are causing the problem, so why not just rename the music files and see if it loads.

under demo\base\music I renamed new. to end intro and multiplayer files - did not make any difference

I don't see a movie folder or a .mov file anywhere - where should I be looking?

Reminder - this is the SOWGBDemo game not the full game - just in case you missed that and it does not exist in the demo

and it's being installed to C:\NorsoftDev\Scourge of War - Demo not to Program Files as per the default instructions

Maybe the music files are causing the problem

This should lead to a crash/freeze at the Initializing screen, so I'm pretty sure it's not the case.
