  • My Battalions are not firing anymore for some reason. Skirmishers & artillery are working fine. Any ideas for a fix for this problem.

  • That's an odd one

    - do they have line of sight to the enemy?
    - do they have enough ammo?
    - have you changed the AI thinking cycles or added any mods that do?
    - have you a very, very large number of troops on the field?

  • Yes I've got line of site & plenty of ammo. I've not changed the AI thinking cycles or added any mods that do, it's a division v division game in a sandbox game. WL10 works fine.

I'll disable my mods one by one & see if it is any of them causing the problem. I also have a save but this site will not let me post it.

  • It's the Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod that's causing the problem.

  • Ive just encountered this too. And I can concor its the new sprites that are causing it. Skirmishers shot fine, but any other inf unit will just stand there and not fire. It affects the both sides.

  • I have no clue why this is happening to others. I'm no Mod expert either.

In my case the Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod worked. I even inserted/adapted the Mod into my personal mod, and had no problems.

I haven't posted my personal Mod because it's mostly a combination of other's mods with changes to suit my personal preferences. And now that I think about it, I need to write a credit list for my personal Mod.

I can relate to problems, I never did figure out why I couldn't play the Indians in the Little Big Horn Mod from SOW GB.

As stated in the SDK Manual: go slow, make a small change and test, test, test. When encountering problems always check the basics first. Example: I remember having to re download some of the SOW GB Mods, and then they would work.

  • It is possible that the addition of extra uniforms is causing some older systems to hit their max memory allowance - causing the Ai cycles to be delayed, LOS not being calculated and units not to fire. I know Tim was having to work to some restrictions when designing the new sprites to stop any memory issues occurring.

It would be interesting to hear the system specs on the PCs having problems.

  • A 64bit Windows, i7 and 12Gb ram certainly sounds like it should have no memory issues. What is the dedicated GPU - sorry if I'm missing that info somewhere there.

  • Ok thanks - we can just keep collecting info until we can replicate or track it down. So just to confirm - you can turn all mods off and only have the sprite one enabled - the issue will appear every time?

This is a good suggestion. Ignoring the possibility of a problem with the download I have encountered problems with community submitted saves for SOWWL bugs and in other games when winrar was used. The ".rar" files sometimes messes things up but don't give an honest crash, which compounds and hides the problem. Additionally, using winrar to unpack zips or other compressed file types is also ocasionally problematic. I remember months of Silent Hunter 4 mods misery until I figured that out. I've never used winrar since and only use winzip or 7zip.

  • I get the problem when I play with these two mods.

    Expanded Toolbar - Grog
Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod

When I use this combination of mods I don't have a problem.

    1) redownloading the mod.
    2) what unzip tool do you use?

I think I've downloaded Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod about three times & the Expanded Toolbar is always kept up to date, I'll download both mods one more time for you to see if it makes a difference.

I use WinRAR all the time, I've never had a problem with it either.

  • Probably not the problem, but as the download is a zip and because I have seen WinRAR cause problems extracting zips and zipping SOW files - if you get a chance try using 7zip.

  • I just downloaded them again & I can confirm it is those two mods causing the problem. I'll try 7zip just in case it is WinRAR that's causing the problem.

And just to confirm - is it 'those two mods' or just the one? Or are we referring to these sprites as two mods?

  • Order Of Mods: Grogs tool bar mod should be low priority.

I.e. listed below all other mods you are using.

Don't forget to exit/reenter the game when changing mods (a known bug).

I haven't tried using his tool bar mod yet with my personal mod. I was going to adapt it to my personal mod but haven't had the time.

    Yes.

Sorry if I'm not to clear. It's only these two mods that are causing the problem when I use them together.

    Expanded Toolbar - Grog
Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod

The Ch a Ch Garde and Pr Landwehr Cav mod is one mod.

  • No problem - a willingness to work through bugs is a big help when we cannot replicate them.

Download errors and extracting errors are out.

    So:

    - if you use either of these on their own it does not cause a problem.
    - but when you combine them no units fire.

Squid - can you replicate that??

  • Last question - these units do not fire throughout the whole scenario - they are not set to 'volley fire' and just firing when you aren't looking?

Some are set to 'volley fire' but they never fire, even when you press the button they never fire. The ones not set to 'volley fire' never fire either.

As Squid said, Skirmishers shoot fine, but any other inf unit will just stand there and not fire. It affects both sides & when they are in the square formation they don't have a problem firing either.
