Yeah I removed AI control from them and they actually stood and fought.
Quite a while too they did.

They never fired a shot.
It was as soon as the enemy got in sight they jumped on their horses and was going to the seminary building.
The guys on the right side also moved away from their fortified position.

Might post it here since it's the same scenario.
The cavarly doesn't want to stay dismounted and seem to think that running away is a good idea.
And it crashed a few minutes in when I was constantly trying to get them off their saddles.
