Re: Are these changes Historical?

<t>Thanks guy, there is not much I could argue against. But I think I am slightly misunderstood.<br/> 1. I did not mean that the regiments marched in a thick skirmish line, or an open order formation. Many, not all; but many regiments broke into a swarm of men when they were engaged.<br/> 2. I am wr...

Re: Are these changes Historical?

<t>To Saddletank, I am more talking about the changes during the ACW. The main change was that light infantry tactics became considerably more important. Most of the infantry fights became disorganized with regiments breaking into swarms of men; this open order formation prevented them from taking u...

Re: Questions about Advance and Fallback.

<t>Should the casualties taken by the units that are spreading when advancing or falling back out be slightly minimized? Also, should the units in the game be more prone to advance and fallback? Because most of the regiments in the Civil War fell apart into open order swarms of men in order not to t...

Re: Are these changes Historical?

<t>Thanks guys, but I am not talking exactly about casualty to combatant ratio. The battle of Borodino in the Napoleonic wars had a higher casualty rate then the battle of Gettysburg. I am talking about the tactical change that the use of rifled musketry helped bring. And I feel that those tactical ...

Questions about Advance and Fallback.

Do these orders minimize casualties? I know fallback does in a way but does advance have the same effect?
What effect do these orders have on firepower?

Re: Are these changes Historical?

<t>Thank you. But you cannot disagree that the rifled musket was a new generation of an infantry weapon. And it certainly did its part to put range and accuracy into consideration. Because it was a new generation of a weapon its use would certainty demand a change in tactics. And this happened in th...

Re: Brigade Combat Tutorial

Did you request infantry support from Meredith to your right center and front center? That worked for me. But the battery would be lost; nevertheless the Confederates would take 400+ casualties on storming the battery and would not present much of a threat.

Re: Are these changes Historical?

<t>So the ranges of engagement were dictated by the tactics and training. And to give the troops the maximum range of engagement would not be historical because historically during 1863 they did not use the maximum effective range of their rifled muskets. Would the changes I made be historical if th...

Re: Are these changes Historical?

Thank you. But how about the failed Confederate charges at Shiloh, the Sunken Road at Antietam, and other bayonet charges explained? Is there any mod that would take care of the excessive melees? I have the Peninsular War mod and there is less melees there then in the original SOW.

Are these changes Historical?

<t>I increased the rifle and rifled muskets range to 300 yards. Some rifles and rifled muskets have a range greater than 300 yards but most have a shorter range of 275, 250, and 225 yards. To make sure that artillery would not be outgunned the range for canister increased to 350 yards but the minimu...
