Scourge of War Boards

I tried, but half the time, my units follow orders and then half the time they ignore me no matter what I do. It seems that once they see the enemy, I lose all control. This is not what I want in a wargame.

It may be realistic, but it is not fun for me.

These buttons do not work for me if I am commanding a division or corp; only if I am commanding a brigade.

I found the 4 stars button and the TCofficers button, but on any scenario using a division they don't seem to work. So far this game is a big disappointment for me.

I can't get the TCofficers or the 4 stars turn off AI to work on any scenario using a division for the Union army. What am I doing wrong?

I found the 4 stars and the TCcommand button. The problem is that they don't seem to work all the time.
Is there any way to just permanently turn off the AI for the human player?
