Observations after playing the tutorial
Observations after playing the tutorial
Game overall looking very promising.
Just about what I was expecting/hoping.
A few observations after first 30 minutes of play:
Some regiments seemed to run away very quickly/easily.
After just a few volleys, although not in what seemed an overly dangerous situation.
Might be WAD, but it looked a bit strange.
One of my regiments that ran away immediately quickly reformed though and rejoined the fight.
Might be new battlefield dynamics being displayed.
Rifle/battle sounds seemed very low, sort of muffled.
Hurt the atmosphere.
At one point I had two of my regiments firing at one rebel regiment, one of mine flanking the rebels from higher ground.
The rebels were taking a beating, but held their ground.
All of a sudden, the rebel brigade disappeared into thin air.
I had turned away for two seconds and looking back the regiment was gone, no fleeing sprites or anything to be seen.
Otherwise gameplay felt really well-paced, graphics were good, interface worked well.
This is looking very promising!

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
I agree everything looks very good except minor things like the musketry fire (there were times I heard nothing at all because troops were marching in the vicinity) and troops running away for no reason even after just joining a fight. Did the fluidity of the troop movement seem a little slow? Maybe it was because they were on such difficult terrain in the demo. Overall I like it and cannot wait to see larger battles and especially MP

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
1) Something is definitely amiss with the sound effects. Sometimes I dont hear any battle sounds at all and the when I do it seems subued and muffled. No speech when giving commands either??
2) Played in 1920 * 1080 fullscreen and the LOS box is missing the top half of it.
3) Demo AI. If you do not move your troops and just wait, the 13th Alabama eventually charges the Cav next to Devin. The cav in reply charges them and prompty gets its ass kicked. Devin in response to seeing his brave boys get butchered then suicides into the 13th Alabama. Oh dear.
4) units seem to glitch when crossing fences or rocks. Looks like the start flashing very quickly and the animation is stuttered. Not a game killer but its a distraction.
5) Very much enjoying it so far.

I`m new here guys. So far the only glitch I have found is when I went to send a message to Hall for support, I hit the send button, and the game crashed. It was fine up to that point. I had it in the bag till that happened. Otherwise, the game is great.

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
another observation regarding the battle sounds - pretty much difficult to hear at all so something is awry there.

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
Demo was fun to say the least. But, of course there are always buts huh?
1)Please bring back the green circle for command control over the units. I can barely see those gold circles and only then if I zoom in all the way pretty much.
2.) The infantry seems to have issues trying to decide how to move and setup its line in places where there are rocks, fences and heavy terrain. I watched one infantry just turn this way and that and then enclosed upon itself and then expanded back out again trying to form a line for at least 2 minutes before it finally found a good line. It seems sort of weird and I wouldn't think an actual regiment would take so long to form a line. It was more streamlined in 2nd Manassas.
3.) I hope the Confederate ai isn't always this easy to overcome. It seemed pretty easy in the demo to flank them.
4.) Please tell me you fixed the infantry charging to its death vs artillery when victory objectives have been obtained? In 2nd Manassas open battles I'd lose 1/2 my army to just artillery charges when there was no need to do this.
Overall though a great little demo. A bit short but heh if you gave us too much we might not buy the full game.
What a tease just enough to make us go buy the engagement ring just so we can have the honeymoon soon.

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
Hi - I think this is my first post, even though I've been coming to this site for a while.
First impressions:
* Positives: AI seems good -they managed to get behind me in the tutorial and forced melee combat with superior troop numbers in order to dislodge me from a good position. I was surprised to be honest as I expected the AI to roll over and die given it was a tutorial. I didn't follow instructions properly, so maybe made it harder for myself, but even so.
* Size of units - nice to have larger units although it doesn't seem to effect gameplay too much
* New tactical options- some really nice options here
* Diversity of terrain
* Same old Take Command goodness
Negatives:
* A few pathing issues - harder than I remember getting units in position and sometimes orders seemed to be changed to odd locations for no apparent reason - this could be user error and it could be the more detailed terrain effecting things, but it felt harder.
* Graphics felt a bit washed out to me- this may be personal taste though- I did like the General's pictures though.
I was always going to buy this game, and certainly this has not changed my mind. There are some areas I hope will be refined, but no more than any other release -and from experience with the previous two games I know that this will happen. Looking forward to the release proper.

ros,
On the graphics, are you refering to the Unit graphics (troops)?
The defalt setting is a lo-res setting, you may need to go to Options and bump it up to "Best".

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
OK, just woke up dreading looking in here, but it's not too bad. I should have held off for a couple more days of testing, but we're at the point where it all looks the same for us.
Thanks for all the great feedback. I would really love to fix a few of these and re-release. But history says that this demo is going to spread across the net and then people would get confused. So it might be best to just patch in a little. We'll have to see how bad these bugs are.
I have plenty of time to work through these starting next week, so we'll get the worst of them knocked out soon. First we need to get the store up. That also will be in the next couple of days.
I don't want to officially announce until all of this is done, so I'm not doing any press or news items until it's all good. This was like a pre-release

Re:Observations after playing the tutorial
I just tried it again, and it seems to be working pretty good now. Sending messages seems to be alright now, no crashing. I won the game, so it`s all cool on this end.
