I have now had a few sessions and overall I think it is an excellent game. The visual display of both units and battlefields is really atmospheric and in my view really captures the feel and scope of the encounters.
My only serious gripe and disappointment relates to the sound and is perhaps a problem of sound balance. All I really clearly hear are very loud marching steps and all other sound sources are barely discernable. The gunfire ,the road march music etc can just be made out and I heard no voice commands related to orders. In my view this is a high priority for reworking.
At a less significant level I was often surprised by the sudden disappearance of enemy units---probably the out of range or view factor --but I think
that a more gradual fading away would be more convincing than these abrupt disappearances--could not the same or similar type of algorithm as is applied to the tree fading,be applied to units moving out of sight.
Finally my greatest and most heartfelt request ---please dont tease us --you have laid a very small portion of this brilliant game before us--please please give us access to the license-purchasing route asap.----and also tell us please where to look for this on your site.

Thanks again to you and your brilliant team of magicians.........

[quote]The one thing I found confusing about the tutorial was it says move to the red circle, but I have never seen a red circle. Maybe it's the moonshine!

I noticed the same thing - realized that they meant the gold circle, not red, under the marker in the air.

Just finished playing 2 rounds of the tutorial. Got my head handed to me again the first time. The second time around I moved 3 of my regiments a bit more agressively to the right towards the artillery battery. As the rebs came at the other 2 regiments through the woods these 3 were in position to flank them and drive a wedge between the brigades moving on my troops and the brigades attacking towards the guns at the intersection. After that I just kept hitting the rebs in the flanks and rolling them up until I had the woods west of the Devil's Den cleared. Finished with a scoer of 611 for a major victory. Suffered 463 casualties and inflicted 724.

Enjoing the game so far and just can't wait for the store to open up so I can try some other scenarios!

Took a bit of time on pause to check out the map. Moved the camera to the top of Litle Round Top and looked down at the Devil's Den and felt a little chill go through me as it sent me back to the time I stood there in 1996 imagining trying to climb that steep slope in the teeth of minie balls and canister!!! I was there in April when everything was spring green, but the map looks like the summer of 1863 was pretty dry. Since I saw in an earlier post that the cloudy skies are from historical records, I'll assume that the dry grass look also comes from some researched sources.

Woohoo indeed!
A riot is an ugly thing.... And it is just about time zat ve had one!

In the middle of my second playthrough, now.
And just wondering, does anybody know how to resupply from those supply wagons?
I've marched my regiments right on top of the wagon, but no luck.
Any command you need to give...?

I find I can't ALT-TAB out of the game.
Windows button doesn't work either.
This is a big thing for me as I frequently need to leave my game-playing to do other more boring stuff with my PC.
Having to save, quit, do-boring-thing, start up, load game is rather cumbersome...

Some comments on the animations/ first volley:

I noticed, that not every soldier shooting the first volley. When the enemy is near, the first volley consists of just 4-5 soldiers shooting, the others are loading and loading (but there muskets must be loaded already cause they didnt fight yet), but not give a full first volley.

Would be great if that could be changed :)

Only things I really noticed were as follows: Many times when a soldier raised his musket to fire, there would be no smoke. Another was how many times they prime in the loading animations before they fire: I seriously counted a man cock the musket 15 times before he would fire. Must be OCD sprites? My last problem was with the coatless sprite being in the Union forces because he obviously has on grey trousers and forage cap, I can see using the guy in full US uniform in confederate forces more than this guy in Union. But other than those minor issues the game is wonderful.

I wish I could get the view out of HITS.

I see there is a setting for this in the Options, but I can't change it.
What is your difficulty setting? If you set it to Historical, it will be in HITS.

This may be a simple fix, but I've tried the options and can't seem to find an answer myself...

No buildings or structures are displayed in game. I've checked the object draw distance and it is set for 1000 yards. I get small boulders, fences, walls, wheat, etc... but no structures. I just see brown spots on the ground where I know they should be.

How do I get them? Again, sorry for the stupid question.

Thanks.

On page two of the options, what is your "Show Map Objects" set to? Best will show all buildings and terrain objects. The lower you go, the more objects are taken a way.

Ha! That's probably it. My wife has control of the thing right now, but I'll try it later. I thought that the object draw distance was somehow the problem. I have a low end computer and was trying to skimp on as much as possible and ended up inadvertently turning them off ;)

While I'm at it, I am slowly upping my graphics options to see what I can get away with and still maintain a decent frame rate (especially for online play). Is there an in-game function that shows me frame rates? Or do you guys use fraps or something similar to get frame rates?

I'm stuck with what to do now. I'm still having a problem with major lag. My computer has 2.50 RAM, I checked, and SoW only needs 2, so that shouldn't be a problem. Just in case though, I made the uniforms the lowest settings possible, and turned off the off-map terrain. Still having lag though. Tc2M runs perfectly. Any ideas?
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.
