SOW and multi core rigs

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Are you sure the fps tool is accurate? I just ran it and it says im getting 22 fps... but it's smooth as butter. I loaded a much larger scenario and it said I was getting 15. Again, smooth as butter. (I could flail the mouse around and not get one jump or stutter)

I recently got a quad core, and have to say I've been amazed at the difference. (compared to a duo-core w/ processors that were actually faster).

Jub: something is wrong with your rig. Your rig is in line with mine (quad core 2.6 mhz-fgigs of ram and I have an ATI 4650 with 1 gig on board) and i am running at a passable 12 fps.

Hey, that is great news, this should allow me to run all of the uniforms!

I don't know how true this is, I remember reading it a long time ago, but I have read that if you can get over 10 FPS - it's still playable!

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!

10 fps is VERY playable in this game. Anything over 15 and you're flying.

So you've got a decent quad core cpu,vid card and 4GB of RAM, none of which are holding you back. what version of windows are you running? I was assuming a 64bit OS as you have 4GB of RAM. But if you have a 32bit OS does your problems really mean that we need to upgrade to Win7 64bit to run this game? Thats why i asked earlier what was the testers using to test and debug this game.

i followed your link for the acer predator, can you confirm that you have 4Gb of RAM and you're still getting 5fps.
Yes Leeds85 Ive 4GB of Ram and an ATI 4850 HD card. I tried again and was getting as low as 4 FPS at one stage and I’m only running with SOW set for a screen resolution of 1024 x 764 I guess the game just doesn’t work properly on new systems.
My systems working fine I was playing Napoleon Total war today maxed out with a unit multiplier giving me units of over 200 for line infantry with full particle /smoke effects.

Bitterly Disappointed :(

On the large scenarios I’m getting an average of 6-8 FPS on smaller sandbox games its way higher.
My systems not even a year old and is a gaming PC I have checked for viruses and spyware and everything’s fine. I also ran a system Diagnostic test for reliability and performance this morning and it passed everything.
I play Napoleon Total war with everything except AA I run it at x2 on so I’m running it on ultra settings with hardware shadows, HDR lighting and al the other bells and whistles its running great so I’m at a loss as to why SOW is hitting me so hard. Heres my system.

Windows Vista , Home premium service pack 2

AMD Phenom 9750 Quad core processor 2.40 GHZ

4.00 GB Ram

ATi Radeon HD 4850 , 512 MB

64 Bit operating system

I know I can add more ram but if I start upgrading again my wife will hang me up on the nearest tree by body parts ill not mention  . I’ll give that a miss
The games great and Norb and the team who worked on it have done a superb job this is my only real problem.

My processors are a tad faster (2.6mhz) and my video card has a gig of ram rather than a half gig but it is a 4650 so that should mitigate my advantage somewhat. One thing I did on my old rig to play TC2M was to download a program called "End it all". This nifty little app would turn off all the unneeded programs running in the background on my rig. It made a huge difference and allowed me to play with high res uniforms. Give it a try, you might be surprised.

My game was lagging a bit but taking off the off-map terrain sorted it out, i have 8-12fps with off-map terrain on even though i'm in the middle of the game map and can't see the border, and a whopping 20+fps with off-map terrain turned off. With off-terrain on sometimes fps drops to zero and my hdd goes crazy for about 2-3secs then comes back but it's playable.

i'm running xp with 2Gb RAM, i still got uniforms set to high. You definitely got the latest drivers for your vid card? You got plently of hard drive space left too?

Dr Mike I installed the “end it all” and its a cool little program but in my case didn’t seem to help much. Leeds85 I switched off the off map terrain and again it didn’t seem to make any difference in my case.
Now get this I lowered the percentage of trees to 50 % and the FSP went straight up to 10-12 FPS I’ve tried everything but for me the trees are a total FPS killer. Is this the density of the trees? What I mean is in areas on the map like the clump of trees on cemetery ridge for example if there are 30 trees with 50% there is now 15 meaning it still realistically represents the tree covered areas or will removing 50% mess up the realism of the maps?
Now this is strange after doing this I increased the screen resolution to max and put AA to x8 and AF to x8 and it made no difference to the FPS I take it that’s because my graphics card is coping with that?
Trial and error folks I hope this will help others who are having problems with low FPS.

I can’t get above 12 FPS on the scenarios. I don’t believe that counter is accurate all of the time It can’t be because I reduced the uniforms from high to medium and it was still fluctuating at the same rate between 6-10 FPS. If I up the resolution to 1024 x 768 it doesn’t seem to make any difference but surely higher Res would hit my system more.
If I switch off Terrain off screen it does make a difference if I’m near the edges of the map. What I’ve settled for now is draw distances of 1500 yards 50% Trees and on the large scenarios I’m getting from 5-9 FPS not great for 4 GB Ram.
I just hope something can be done for those of us with new rigs. Even if the game would use two cores. Multi core is the way forward and surely if SOW is to progress it will have to run better than this on Multi core systems.
