1. When on the map, you press "M" again to return to the game view. I would like to avoid moving my hand to the ESC key.

2. When surfing my units with the arrow keys, I would like to NOT neccessarily move the camera view to the unit. When moving individual units, you waste a lot of time moving the view around (fx back to the place where you want to move the unit).
1. Clicking "Close" on the Map closes the Map easily to return to the previous camera view.
2. Select "Stay Camera w/OOB Navigation" on Page 2 Options.

Thanks for your suggestions. :)

This is the only map they had, the Adams County map. They got it off the walls of farmhouses in the area.
Jedediah Hotchkiss hadn't gone to Gettysburg and spent a couple of weeks drawing it up.

What!!?? They didn't have USGS 1:50k topos or google earth back then? How on earth could they have gotten anything done?

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind a jpg or bmp of the adams map used in the game that we can print out. It would help when sending courier orders, or a least be able to call up that map for reference from the orders writing screen...

I'd rather it be an option. Crappy low-res map, or a good ultra detailed google earth map that shows me what General Lee is having for Breakfast while my 20th Maine wait on Little Round Top. Heck I expect to see the google maps car driving around the battlefield scouting the enemy.

In all seriousness, while I appreciate the realism, I can't help but feel having a good map would have been more preferable. I mean it's not like Lee saw little bugle horns moving around his map as Longstreet made his attack on the Union left flank, so we already got away from historical accuracy with that one. And I think the biggest problem with the map is that the units blend into the terrain to the point it's almost impossible to get any situational awareness from the map at all.

This is one area I'd be willing to sacrifice historic accuracy (as far as the date of the map) to have a map that is more detailed, such as the Warren map that was posted in a link in another thread. That map showing the fences, town, topography, woods, orchards, roads, streams, and farm names would be an excellent candidate even though it was made a couple years after the battle. It could be broken up into the four game maps. While it may not match the game perfectly as far as things like fences or orchards, etc. it seems it should be more than adequate for it's purpose. I agree that it does have to be zoomable (and therefore scrollable) to adequately interpret the tactical situation when things get crowded. Could the unit symbols on the map be designed to show facings?
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Ah the age old question: Sim or game? Of course it is not an either or situation but a both/and situation and people will always quibble over where exactly on the continuum a given sim/game should fall. I like the map as is. A nice compromise between the two. On the one hand it is the map that the generals on the field had. On the other you get to see all the moving units and couriers in real time. Some gamey aspects, some sim realism. Right in the middle where Norb likes to live!

How about some status indicator that let's the player know if a unit is visible to the enemy or not? Maybe I missed this and it's already in.

Good grief I did the same thing with TC2M. Maybe I need glasses.

At the very least, a zoomable map would help a great deal. It would be even better to have as an option a toggle for landmark names on the map.

Those who are newbies can enable that until they are more familiar with the landscape and then they can toggle it off to add more realism.
