Defensive AI issue?

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Defensive AI issue?

Post by Son of an Irish Noble »

Hi, just bought the game and consider it vastly underpriced for what I've gotten.

The main issues I've been having are with sandbox mode. First off army vs army doesn't seem to pit an entire OOB against the other, as it did in the previous games. A little disappointing.

My other big issue is that the AI for my side when I play a defensive battle seems to essentially shut down. For example, I just got done with a defense corps level fight as Sykes artillery commander. In the battle, the first division was engaging basically the entire rebel corps while I supported as much as I could with my batteries, but despite all my couriers to Crawford, Aries, and Sykes none of them moved at all. First division was torn apart and they didn't even shift to defend the victory point (with the rebel flank wide open too).

This also happened when I played as the commander of Hancock's second division, similar situation. 1st and second divisions face pretty much all of Hill's corps while nobody else moves at all, even to shift forces around to defend the point. Hell if I hadn't commanded second division first would have been left out there alone. A little frustrating to say the least.

It is, but keep that under wraps, I don't have anymore money to spend on a addon, not yet anyway.

This happens quite frequently. The corp commanders seem to be off writing their memoirs. I have had more luck asking for help directly from other division commanders. They will usually respond by sending a brigade, sometimes even the whole division to help. But, you are right, the corp commanders are usually missing in action. :( In TC2M the corp commander would always feed more troops into the battle, a little late at times, but they did their duty.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

I haven't even gotten a response from other division commanders, honestly. Hopefully the official patch takes care of this, glad I'm not alone with this issue.

I think I found an AI bug that could be causing this. Hope to get it out next week.

Where else can you find this kind of response to a game issue??? Thanks, Norb! It's your dedication to making this a great game that makes it so.

Indeed it is, and it's worth double considering he's doing it basically single-handed. :)

He has produced a fine game that will be around for a long long long time and I for one am most grateful for all that he has put into this simulator and the work that he continues to put into it. I paid $52 in the UK to buy the game and it is worth every cent.

Also, should the situation ever arise, then I would be more than prepared to pay for an add-on for extra, unthought of as yet, features.
