OOB Idea - Company Level

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Was anyone able to make anything of this? Or was it too big of a mess to be worth bothering with?
I'm trying to research as much info about specific companies as I can, and that is pretty difficult information to come by. I might try to release a functional company OOB that isn't as historically accurate as could be for the sake of seeing how it works out.

I would think the historic map scales would go out of whack with regiments taking up more room. If so, Alpine or Kansas might be fine....... and if not concerned with history, what the heck.

Yep that's exactly what happens. A 1:1 sprite ratio regiment takes up as much space as a 1:4 brigade does... The maps are setup for 1:4, anything larger than that and the accuracy of the scaling goes out the window.

One day when the maps are opened for creation, 1:1 scale maps can be made. Smaller portions of the battlefield can be represented along with 1:1 sprites. Looking forward to that day.. :)

I'm not sure if this is the type of information you are seeking, but in the "For What Its Worth" department, W. J. Tancig compiled a small book titled "Confederate Military Land Units" in 1967. Within this small volume, the author has listed each known Confederate company by regimental number, company letter and company name. For example, Company A, Marion Rifles and Company D, Southern Guard, of the 5th Virginia Infantry included family members. Tancig's primary source of information was a 1900 publication compiled by B/G. Marcus Wright that included "Local Designations of Confederate Organizations."

Perhaps these may be of some help in your quest.

I remember some over at TC2M trying this with mixed results awhile back. It seems like a fun idea, keep us updated on the whereabouts of the project.
