Yeah, that looks better Derek. Based on your Smithsonian background, I feel confident you will do everything within your power so make sure accuracy is paramount within the limits of game design.

I would not argue Hancock's assessment of the game subject, however, Meade's rank as major general dates from Fredericksburg.

Smithsonian background you say, maybe I could get a job there when I am done with my master's.......

I'm just one of the artsies in the crowd. Mike said square state flags and all supporting documentation said so too.;)

As I mentioned below, my comments were directed regarding the Pennsylvania regimental colors. I'll leave the discussion of the balance of the flags to others.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

State flags carried at the time of the Civil War.....and there were a thousand variations of regimental (or state) flags, were very much square. Many followed the "Eagle" flag of the regulars (as above great post)and were almost uniformly SQUARE.
Trust me, it was a little eye opening to me as I thought there'd be at least, say, 10 percent or so that were more rectangular, but not so, sorry. Most vary only a few inches from hoist to fly.
