Adding Trees...
Brothers,
I would like to modify the Kansas map by adding way more trees to it, probably 3 or even 4 times the number on it. I'd like to get a more "Western Theater" feel to it. I have looked at the files and understand what the names and numbers mean but am not clear as to how these would translate to the map itself. Obviously I'll need to rename it, (Kansas 2 or something), but the map set-up seems a bit different from TC2M. In TC2M all three files that made the maps were in the same folder, but here they seem to be scattered a bit.
Ideas?
Thanks.

Jack – you will need a program such as…Photoshop, or Gimp, to modify the KS.bmp file, that is located in the Maps-folder.
As long as you use a color (grayscale) that has already been used, you can get by without having to edit any other file.
Basically, you can place a (woods) any-where, as long you they are called woods, and the color is already listed in the mapname.csv file.
You – can-not go under another name, the game maps are locked, so you are not able to add in another map name that the game will recognize. (i.e.…Kansas 2) – will not work!

Re: Adding Trees...
D,
Understood. Found the KS.bmp file. NP. Guess I wasn't clear in my original statement. Don't want to add new woods areas per se. Want to increase the number of trees in existing wooded areas, OR is that the same thing? Also, the grayscale bmp file doesn't actually show trees on it. Just buildings and fields, I think that's what those are. Can I just change the density numbers in the csv file?

Re: Adding Trees...
Yes. Just change the value in column D. Higher value is lower density BTW.
The greyscale ( column B ) is the grey value painted onto the map bmp ... that places the sprites in columns N - Q on the map.

Re: Adding Trees...
Jack – I actually considered that you may have been asking it that way, but taking a look at the KS.bmp file, That approach probably will not work !
You can change the density which will add more trees to those areas, but there is just not enough of those areas to make much difference.
The only way to change the look of that particular map would be to add more woods to the KS.bmp file, by using a Photoshop or equivalent program.
Now, let’s say that there were areas on the map that pertained wheat , you could just swap around the wheat, for that of trees in the mapname.csv file.
And, you could do the same thing to other areas on the map that you wanted to make into a wooded area; the problem is that there are no areas listed on this particular map.
Open up the 2_DD_RT.bmp file and view it, now open up the KS.bmp file and compare the two, you will see what I mean!

Re: Adding Trees...
Oh, BTW: The answer to your question as follows:
Adding to the response from begbug !
In the Mod that you are currently playing on,
Open that in Windows Explorer – and add a folder called Maps .
Now, open the Work \ SDK \ Maps – folder and locate the KS.csv file – and Copy that to the Mods \ Map – folder that you just created.
Edit that file – and this will over-ride the default KS.csv file.

Re: Adding Trees...
Thanks to both of you. Will plow ahead, screw things up some, go back, try again, get annoyed, do it somemore, get it right, not remember how I did it, start all over again and then finish with what I actually wanted.

Re: Adding Trees...
Okay, so that worked. Reality was I just wanted some more trees on the map. Changing the density numbers did the trick. Gives it a bit more color. Excellent. Thanks guys.

Re: Adding Trees...
Jack - here is a five minute edit which will add trees to the KS.bmp map.
Just Place this KS.bmp file into the Mod of choice \ maps - folder.
This is just random blocks of trees, wheat, and corn. You may have to edit the density level on these, but that has been covered above.
