icons on minimap

Post by oho »

I'm just getting into the game again after a longer time of absence. It really looks and feels great and the order-map is a great feature.
One thing I would like to suggest most humble is an option to see only the icons of my troops on the mini-map (and perhaps if possible those of the enemy spotted by my own troops). The option "all troops" include all enemy-troops too which is too much cheating. The option 1000 yards is too low for me because I can't see all my subordinate leaders, when they are longer away. I know it is not completely historic, but it is to simulate a staff which maybe can calculate the movements of my units and gets a courier when something getting in the way.
Any chance for that?

I apologize, but I'm having a hard time discerning what you are asking. What units, exactly, do you want to be able to see on the mini map?

Norb , I think that he is asking to see all of his available troops, no matter where they are located on the map, but he only wants to view the enemy troops that are seen by his troops.

Or, to put it another way, if his troops can’t see the enemy, he does not want them to appear on the mini-map!

At least that is what I get from his post!

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!

I may be wrong, but if I can't see my own troops from the commander that I have selected, or if they are not within 1000 yards then they aren't shown (except if I chose "show all units" which shows all enemy troops as well).
I think what is needed to keep the overview is if I selected the Army chief to have all my units displayed on the map also if they are further away.

when playing around with the movement map yesterday, i found you had to actually have the general selected to see his icon on the map. Obviously this is hard when you cant see him, but if you use the up down, left right arrow keys you can cycle through the OOB.

maybe the oob list could have beside a general their last known location, or their orders to a new location etc? When playing with map contacts off its very hard to know who's on your flank.

And from what i remember, only enemy troops that are visible show up, question marks appear on the map too dont they? I might be getting confused across difficulty levels...

Also helps to assign your commanders to the hot keys at the start of the battle. That way you don't have to cycle around all of your commanders to see his icon on the map. I usually assign myself to the 1 key, then my next subordinate to 2, and so on..

Yes, question marks show up for units that have been spotted but are no longer in sight of any of your units. That's on Normal difficulty.
