Playing the Tutorials - A Couple of Questions

Post by McHugh »

Playing through the tutorials and currently on the artillery one. When I tried the demo in January I don't remember tutorials for artillery, and divisional combat etc. so I assume these were added with the latest patch, 1.2.

When playing the artillery tutorial I noticed that there were some red cross hair markers above some Union units. What do these indicate? Secondly, when I choose a specific target with artillery, I assume that I left click on the target after choosing the specific target option.

I hope that once I order the full game the manual is more detailed then what I can access with the demo. For example it doesn't explain the effects of the different types of ammuntion that artillery can load up with.

I have also set up for multiplayer following the directions in one of the files such as opening up port 31791 so that I can try a session with a friend of mine.

Thanks for any replies.

The red cross hairs mean the enemy unit is in firing range of your selected unit. You are correct about the choose specific target.

It's the same manual you get with the game, although there will be some updates when the final version of the new patch is released.

Well, I tried the Corp and Division tutorials for the first time and the scale of the battles is amazing. At the same time I was overwhelmed by the control requirements. In the Division tutorial, I had a brigade that I wanted to move to a specific location. Clicking on the brigade commander did not produce any action. I then moved Howard, the corp commander beside the brigade commander, clicked on the brigade commander again, but still no results. The brigade did not move the entire battle. I assume that you can give orders to a subordinate by either moving beside him or sending an order by courier. In addition, I also assume that in single player, the only orders sent by courier that a subordinate will act on are the ones already included in the game. In other words, the free text order will not be understood. Any tips on command at this level would be greatly appreciated as it seemed that sometimes micro managing brigades worked but as in the above example, it did not.

After you click on the brigade commander then you click on the blue formation box that you want the brigade to be in, then the brigade will move.

Thanks, just to clarify, do I have to ride over to where the brigade commander is or send a courier with one of the canned messages?

McH,

No you don't. Click on the Brigade Commander, then click on the ground where you want him to go and he will. It may help if you TC him, just to make sure he goes there.
