Requesting a new command please (next patch, hehehehe) for Christmas!

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

Boy, I am getting better at this game (well in my head any way). I am wondering if a command can be introduced which would allow me to create a predefined fallback or rally point for my broken troops/retreat, to run too without me having to try to figure out where under heaven they might have ran off too.

So what do you think? Possible?

Also, What I want for Christmas this year is a map option which will allow me to zoom in, and zoom out. All I see at the moment are clumps of hairy little dots running around. :)

Later!

A retreat to point command was actually brought up with the team but was turned down.

However if you are playing custom scenarios, you can define any retreat point you like. Check out the top lines of the battlescripts for each of the scenarios. The "safe place" commands are the coordinates where the specified commanders/units will retreat to.

I believe that map zoom option is on the wish list.

RebBugler's custom toolbar has a "short retreat" option. In all fairness, retreat was not a controlled command, it's a "get the hell out of here" command. If you want an organized withdrawal, use fall back. The retreat-turning-into-advance thing still needs to be fixed though (as does the pathing on fall back that has emerged).

I've requested save games of this more than once.. Until we get some saved games with detailed information on the issue, it'll never get fixed.

No! we will not submit!

We save the games for the purposes of statistics, would those be sufficient or would you need a save game file (I haven't looked at the file types so forgive me for being vague)?

Yous guys should just come play MP more often :silly:

Hi LP.

Hmmm, too bad the suggestion for a fallback to rally point was squashed. From a tactical standpoint fallback positions are part of any battle plan no matter what time period battles have taken place (realistic) so removing it would actually be historically/tactically inaccurate (just my opinion).
Check out the top lines of the battlescript's for each of the scenarios. The "safe place" commands are the coordinates where the specified commanders/units will retreat to.
Could you give me an example sir?

Cool.

Cheers Little Powell. :)

The best thing you can do is have a saved game of the selected unit right before the problem happens. Autosave is great for this. This way Norb can go into the guts of the engine and see what's happening.

We'd love to make it to more MP games but the evenings are when we work on the game. :)

If you have the SDK, open the battlescript for GB01 (dander up yatta yatta) scenario.

9:50:00 AM - OOB_U_WGamble - Asafeplace - 87000 38850

With that command, Gamble's brigade will retreat to those coordinates.

Yeah it's nothing like assigning coordinates on the fly, but if you have a favorite scenario, you can modify each units retreat position to a spot right behind the action etc..

Thanks LP....Ummm, okay another question here. As you know the new command map you folks have implemented, could a command be attached to this some how? Click on the command map, and you can select from a Move command, or a rally point command. Could something like this be added to the command map structure by some ambitious modder?

Cheers... :)

Well, technically, playing MP in this instance would be working. Lots of vocations have time set aside for observation. Think of this as hands-on experience.
