Is this Hard Coded?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Is this Hard Coded?

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

I'm am getting a bit annoyed that you can only hold one victory location at a time. Is there any way to override this so that two or more locations can be held without the need for the commander to be present?
That isn't realistic at all having to only hold one VP at a time.

later!

Yes it's hard coded. You need a commander to hold any objective and it can't be modded. It's part of the design of the game and has been since the days of CWBR.

Hi Sir.

You know I asked this before. Sorry LP, see what happens when one doesn't drink their milk in the morning...

Cheers.

No worries.. For me it's coffee.. I don't do anything in the morning that requires any kind of concentration before I've had my coffee... :)

Aren't you limited only by the number of commanders you have? I believe in the game as long as you meet the troop requirements and have some commander there, it should be held.

Hi there Norb.

Yeah. I normally play Brigade level battles, and I would have liked to be able to split my brigade up, and send them to hold victory locations without me having to be present. I mean to me as long as I have troops guarding/holding a VP location than I should be able to reap the benefits. Mind you of course splitting up your forces could be a very hazardous thing to do, but you take your chances as all commanders do on the battlefield.

I am very sure that many locations in the Civilwar were held by a handful of men, and without the presence of their commander. I was only thinking that if the game is meant to be real as possible I think that is one area that you may wish to take a look at, but that is just me.

I have no understanding of programming whatsoever, and it's easy for me to ask for something, but to program it could be a nightmare even for the most seasoned of programmers like yourself. I love the game, and I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to suggest things that could make it better if that is at all possible since its fantastic.

Cheers.

I too am interested in making this happen. For scenario scripting I'd like invisible waypoints that would trigger events when troops come within a certain range of them, with or without officers. It's on my wish list...here's hoping. :)

Can it be made so we could appoint a subordinate officer to be with those troops as their commander while at a different victory point?

Yes, if you're playing division level or higher. You can't at brigade level because ME can't be divided, or detached into separate commanders.

I'm pretty sure that's in there as events. You should really read our sdk documentation
