Controls2 - Fonts - Courier

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I have to agree with this. Most of the courier messages we are dealing with in the game are being written "in the saddle" so the handwriting would probably be more on the "scrawl" end of the handwriting spectrum rather than the calligraphy side.
Amish John – I forgot to mention – Great Call on the changing the Font handwriting system, I would have never thought of that.

Also - Thanks to born2see - the one that lead us down this path! Finally something to Mod!!!

Also – I think that in order to please everybody – and with the New-mod-System – a number of different Mods can be created which will give the player the option as to which font he likes the best.

born2see – did you download the FontMaker program from the Internet , and if so – do you have it working?

Also – Mod \ Graphics \ Font – does work, so that there is not a reason to over-write any of the games files.

Also - take note that the FontMaker program that I'm using will increase the file sizes if the file is not saved while in the Power Render program.

Basically - if I copy the FontMaker Program to the Desktop - and try to save a file, it is larger than if I used the PR Program - not sure if you have experienced this problem!

I have not. But I will. I'll let you know, probably in an hour or so. I need to save the Union right on Culp's Hill first. Just call me "Mean" George Greene!

OK – I’m running into several different problems getting the game to accept another font by another name.

I can use the original name – and it appears to work except that the courier screen in the menu that gives the orders are slightly messed up, but the orders that appear on the courier message does not mess up – now that is confusing!

The default font for this is VinerHand32 – so I can add a Font in a Mod using that same name but it will mess up one of the screens while giving orders.

Now – if I try to change the font name to something else such as RageItalic32 – the courier screen will only use this font on the first line of the courier message – and then default back to the original font of VinerHand32.

Obviously, I’m doing something wrong – but can’t place where exactly I’m doing it wrong!

I downloaded FontMaker but I'm not seeing how to use it to convert a .ttf to a .pft file. My only option is to save it as a .png file. Now I'm not Mr. Font, so maybe I'm missing something?

Here is a link to the Power Render Program - It has the software inside of it to edit \ create the Font files.

Also - this program seems to be disappearing from the Internet, so grab your copy and save it!

Different program but I still don't see the conversion option. It just asked for the font, I changed the size from 72 to 24 and hit the generate button. OK? I can see why it's disappearing from the Internet. Sorry.

Help me out here D. :(

Found this about pft files and I found ChiWriter which will run under DOS (DosBox) I'm wondering why this ancient technology would be used in a current game unless it works well with Power Render. 'Tis a mystery to me. But I'm not a graphics guy, I just make them work. ;)

born2see - can you post the TTF file?

Also - did you Install the PR6 Program?

I still not One-Hundred-Precent sure that we can add are own PFT files by a different name, as of right now!

born2see - here is the amended file that is using a different font, may have to change the font size.

I think that this is using the Rage Italic font!

It looks like the writing that was probably used in the field.
