Controls2 - Fonts - Courier

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Reducing the size of the font to .75 worked for me.

Yes, changing the size of the font there, helps out a lot.
I would like to see a font with finer lines. This one looks like it was written with a felt-tip pen instead of a quill.

Did you go through all of the ones in FontMaker program - to see if any looks like the one that you want?

I don't think that we are going to be able to convert a TTF to a PFT - but I'm still searching around on the Internet.

Now, back to the folding sheet of paper.

BTW - I have never heard of a Quill Pen before you mentioned it! You Guys really do seek for authencity - which is a little bit too deep for me!

born2see - have you tried out the Freestyle Script from the FontMaker program.

The writing is thinner than the Rage Italic - which is the one that I sent you in the mod.

Example Picture below. - Note that your writing may appear bigger with your Resolution.

All of this begs the question: Why does the game use pft files and how are they created/converted? Maybe someone who is privy to that info could enlighten us.

I'm willing to go through the whole Chiwriter DOS thing but if there's an easier way or that's a waste of time I'd like to know.

I started to go through the font list in Font Maker but I would have to go through them one by one. And where do they reside? There not in my Font folder.

So many things we don't know about.

Hey D, I just created a Lamar Pen.pft using Font Maker. Is there a reason that won't work?

Well, I’m not one that is in-the-know about this, but my un-official guess would be this.

The Power Render Program or the Games Engine – was written by another person that made this product to sell to small game designers.

Norb just happened to be one of those guys that were looking for this type of Engine to program his game into. Years ago he mentioned several other engines but by-passed on them for one reason or another.

Norb is just a one-man-team when it comes down to the actual programming, so if using another engine that was already built probably saved him years of programming.

Now, looking at the PR6 Program and the associated files, that program was already installed (i.e…FontMaker) so Norb probably just used that and moved on to other things that were more pressing.

It is quite remarkable that one person did all of this programming, and the game turned out to be as good as it is. So if that is the case, we should use what we can use , and by-pass what we can’t change.

But, from my searching on the Internet - it does not appear that we can change a TTf file into a PFT file, and if Google doesn’t have an answer than there is probably not one out there.

Answer – to your question – I do not see where the PFT files are located in the FontMaker program – so they must be embedded within the program.

Your skills are a little bit better than mine, how did you do it?

Also - the picture below is only showing half of the picture!

What - would be the reason that it didn't work?

Here's what I did. I had installed the Lamar Pen font previously so I fired up Font Maker, found it in the list, changed it to 36 point, called it LamarPen36 and hit Generate. It saved the font in the PR6SK\utility\FontMaker\bin directory as LamarPen36.pft (there's your conversion utility). I then copied it into the mod ...\Graphics\Fonts folder. I changed the gamefonts.csv to reflect the new "MsgFont", changed the scale from .75 back to 1 and fired up the game. What you see is the result. Not a finished product by any means but more of a demonstration. I leave it to your excellent skills to make it legible.

Now if you can help me figure out how to stop the rebs from storming over the Devils' Den, I'd be a happy man. :P

SOmewhere in the darkness - you lost me, and I'm fading away fast!

Hey, can you post the new file that you created?

Also - where did you get the font - is it the same one you posted above the lamarpen.demo?

Thanks

Here's the original font and the one I created. Forgive me if you know this already. Add the Lamarpen.ttf to your font folder. Then when you open Font Maker you'll see it in the list. Select it, pick the point size, remember to change the default name from test. Hit the "Generate" button and it will create the font in the the ...PR6SDK\utility\FontMaker\bin directory with the .pft extension. From there you're good to go.

Sorry, I always forget to answer your questions. Yes it's the original one I downloaded.
