Controls2 - Fonts - Courier

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Amish John - in the gscreens file there are several listings such as &listordertimes
- so I'm going to assume that this is where the time is placed on the courier message.

It is going to take me several hours to going through them.....such as removing them starting the game, testing the results, and repeating the same process over again!

Will report back with any news!

Amish John – I don’t think that this can be changed, it appears that it is controlled by a sort of header by the program.

The header is stored temporarily in the &formatted:$param2 variable, but this variable is used by more than one entry.

ADukes – would have known that this was not possible within minutes, while it has taken me hours.

If anyone wishes to try out the Folding_Message_v1 - here it is.

Basically, a courier message that appears to have been folded before being delivered!

Problem - while in the courier window giving orders - the screen text that dictate the orders will scroll down, this doesn't prevent anything - but this still needs to be fixed.

I have spent hours with this problem - but can't figure out what control this scrolling!

Version2 - will be when this is figured out!

Looks nice! I'm not sure what you mean by what controls the scrolling? Do you mean it shouldn't scroll because the whole message is visible? I think I might know the answer to that. If you mean their length, I think I know the answer to that too. Let me know

Also, for me it's intruding into the Toolbar. I'll correct that if I can and post the revision.

When you click the Send Message – it takes you to another Menu to give the orders.
While giving the orders – the text in that window will scroll past the bottom of that window.

I'm in the Linux system – can't send a picture until later on.

Great – if you can figure that out, I tried for hours to no avail!

Yes – you can test that resolution better than I can – that didn't happen on my end.

If you want to – revise it – and post the new edition – if you want you can also add in the font that you are using. You may wish to change the name slightly such as Folding_Message_v2.

This way if there is a problem we should be able to pinpoint which version someone is using.

Thanks,

davinci

Will do. I'll attack it in the morning or should I say later this morning. ;)

born2see - here is a picture of the text scrolling past the bottom of the window.

Do you know what entry in the gscreens file would control this?

Basically, everytime you add in a command for a unit, the text is written in this window, and each new entry should scroll the window - problem is that the window is not scrolling, so text is written on screen.

I'm not sure why you would change the Send Message screen. Doesn't really apply to changing the Courier Message screen. Here is the revised gscreens file. I just removed the Send Message portion.

Forgive me but I was only able to sleep for a short while. My brain is in simplistic mode.

I haven't addressed the message overflow into the toolbar problem yet.

born2see - that solved the scrolling problem for me, I didn't think about removing the Send Message portion of the gscreens file.

Nor am I sure why removing that part of the file would stop the scrolling, all of those values are the same as the default values.

Thanks,

davinci

'Tis a mystery. That's one of the difficult things about this modding stuff. You're dealing with the proverbial black box. Put something in and note the result. You never really know why. One of the projects I have in mind is to improve the documentation the mods. I'm sure I would get lot's of cooperation.

D: I'm enclosing a revised gscreens file which fixes the Toolbar overwrite problem. However note the Close Box is still mis-located. I don't think I can fix that without your original graphic so I leave it to you.

I'm also enclosing a gscreens file with just the Courier portion and not the CourierMess portion. If you look at the two you'll see what I mean. I don't think the CourierMess portion does anything.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Update: For some reason the original gscreens file is now named gscreens_2011-07-03-2.csv. Should be gscreens.csv. ???
