Set options not recocgnised in multiplayer

2 of us are have hit a snag playing multiplayer over a LAN.

We both use 'Historical' difficulty and 'Best' graphic settings, which work fine in single player. On multiplayer the game defaults to a free camera setting and low-res graphics.

Have tried adjusting settings through the multiplayer options screen but no joy. Any ideas?

We are both patched to 1.2 btw.

The server get an mp options screen. The same place where it lists the players in the game. Look at the bottom for a button before you launch the game. We store the mp setting separately.
