Telescope / Binoculars

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Hi.

Maybe you folks are looking at it from the wrong angle.

We all know that the binoculars only had one zoom, so how about choosing a zoom between the first zoom, and the second zoom, and change the values for a zoom in between this way you no longer have the problem with having two zooms to contend with.

so if zoom one is 2x, and the second zoom is 10x, make the zoom 6 times. You have to remember that the longer the zoom, the faster panning takes place.

Anyway later.

Question - Is there a way of changing the zoom effects in game?

If, not, then what are you referring to?

Project for Mike:

Find some software which will allow you to browse in 3D. For example, instead of clicking on a link you would walk down a corridor or open a door to the new page. If I can picture it in my mind I know you can find it. :P

Hi Davinci.

I think I have read that the graphics can be done to make it look like you are looking through a set of binoculars. Now it worked when you pressed the zoom key once, the problem is when you press the zoom the second time (more zoom). What I mean is instead of having two zooms, why not just have one. Press the zoom key once to look through the binoculars, and press the zoom key to bring you back to normal again.

For instance the above graphic would be fine, just black out the rest of the screen.

You just choose at what level of zoom you want to have. If zoom 1 is 2x, and second zoom is 10x, just make the only zoom level at 5 times.

I could have read it wrong though, it has been known to happen.

Cheers...

Again - What are you referring this to?

Can you go in the game and do what you are saying here?

If, not - how is anyone else going to do it?

Hi Davinci.
Again - What are you referring this to?
The Ability to have Binoculars working in game.
Can you go in the game and do what you are saying here?
NO! I only make suggestions, it's up to those who are far smarter than myself, otherwise I would have done it already.
If, not - how is anyone else going to do it?
Because there are smarter people than myself out there, and know more than I could ever know about such things, like yourself for instance.

I doubt that there is anyone that is smarter than anyone else, pertaining to modding, that’s what modding is, the ability to constantly bang ones head against the wall trying to do something different!

It doesn’t take too much intelligence to bang your head against the wall, just a little bit of determination, and the wiliness to constantly fail, before trying something different.

Now , as far as I know – there is no way of changing the zoom effects to anything, other than pressing the zoom key.

The problem we are running into is not having the ability to press any button while a screen is displayed in the game.

Try this – pull up the map in the game, and then try to press a zoom key, nothing happens!

So, the task at hand is to try to get the game to press the zoom key for us, while we are bring-up, and shutdown the binoculars.

that looks great Davinci!

i just checked there, 'escape' closes any screens that are up, so that might work to get out of it?

Are you able to sepcify the esc key as exit window AND zero zoom?

Here is a picture of draft number 2 – still changing as I’m trying to switch between modding the keys, and getting a graphic of the binoculars in game.
The attachment Bino2.jpg is no longer available
The problem is not the exit from the binoculars, it is getting the game back to the original state of no zoom effect!

Basically, when the binoculars are clicked on, the first zoom effect will also be applied, you just have to practice on how to pull it up, so that you are in-focus.

Remember, that once the screen is up, you do not have the ability to move the screen.

Another , problem is that I have not figured out a way of blacking out the entire screen, there was a way of doing this for the courier message, but that doesn’t seem to work here.

pending…..

Alright, more talented then.

True.

Oh, okay I thought there was a way, the above screen shot confused me into thinking that there was a way once you press the zoom key that that image would show, My Mistake.
Try this – pull up the map in the game, and then try to press a zoom key, nothing happens!
Umm, that I did know, I was talking about using the zoom key to see in the distance, and not having anything to do with the game map...I am now totally confused.
So, the task at hand is to try to get the game to press the zoom key for us, while we are bring-up, and shutdown the binoculars.
Oh okay. Sorry for the bother...

Later.
