Also.... why would a regiment who is closer to friendly lines surrender to ONE ENEMY REGIMENT when surrounded by three or four FRIENDLY REGIMENTS????????????
Autocharge nonsense.....
Autocharge nonsense.....
Can someone please explain to me the rational of the auto-charging that occurs when TC'd regiments are close (but not touching)? I mean, seriously! I'll vouch for the GCM MP community that we lose more regiments in battles to auto-charging and the retreat button working at whim. WTF!?

Well. . . before you started playing with us. . . a common tactic used by a certain player (Seal) was to run a TC'd regiment through the enemy's lines to capture artillery or turn an objective. So we asked for the autocharge.

I still think the better solution to that tactic would have been to disallow column formation within a certain distance of enemy units.
Re: Autocharge nonsense.....
It's disgusting in SP (I know, Soldier, "What is single player?") ... I've tried melee tactics that work in MP in SP with sketchy results. If a 1 v 1 melee occurs in SP, I like to try to throw another friendly regiment into the fight to better my odds. In SP, I've had regiments form up into column in the middle of a melee and just sit there. I've yet been able to get two regiments to charge one simultaneously and have both regiments hit the target regiment without one of them stopping and forming into line. It's retarded.
With the autocharge the way it's set, one small enemy regiment could get wreck the continuity of an entire line and leave holes for an enemy to exploit.
The argument Beef has made is looking more and more valid as I go along with the game and read more about how battles were fought then. Melee was RARE and usually avoided. I think there ought to be a automatic short retreat chance function inside the engine (about 200 yards or so) for regiments attempting to charge based on regiment grade, fatigue, current losses, current formation, terrain, and leadership. I think this should apply to autocharge chances as well. This would create more realistic combat environment.
In addition, it would be nice to see the TC'd regiments actually finish a retreat order. As you in the MP community well know, you have to practically spam the retreat button to get a regiment out of melee, and that's still no guarantee.

my argument was all for game balancing. which this definitely falls under. but alas.. this game ,i'm sure, was play tested and everything was used and abused in all ways. everything that was to abusive or took the game in the wrong direction was tweaked, corrected, deleted, or counter balanced so to make gameplay more enjoyable for the consumer.
