Top Three Union Brigades
Top Three Union Brigades
I would like some experts (historical researchers on Union infantry brigades only please ) opinions on who the top three (inf) fighting brigades at Gettysburg were? The given is the Iron Brigade (Day 1) so really it's the other two have me stumped. Maybe Irish Brigade(Day 2), maybe Hannibal Day's brigade to fill out the top 3. I'm curious on an experts opinion, I despise the Union, therefore I don't research them or their brigades, I just read about the overall battles and war. Give me the top three and obviously I would know you meant when their division was at it's strongest point during Gettysburg. The three I listed seem the fiercest and toughest to beat in this simulation. You can factor in the morale/leadership of their division commander by all means.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Top Three Union Brigades
Without question, my Union brigades from the GCM are the top two fighting brigades in the SOW game:

Once again! I said experts ONLY not amateurs with no knowledge who think GCM is the #1 Wonder of the World. Anyone heard of stock scenarios? They do exist ya know? Norb did create them for us to use you know. But that's fine so the answer is no one on NorbSoft is sure, well I fill in the blanks with my own knowledge, thanks for coming out!

Re: Top Three Union Brigades
Some of the famous and accomplished brigades are as follows:
Excelsior Brigade , Col. William Brewster, 2nd brigade, 2nd division, 3rd corp
Vermont Brigade, Col. Lewis Grant, 2nd brigade, 2nd division, 6th corp
The United States Regular Brigades there were 2 at getty and are found in the 5th corp
The Pennsylvania Reserves two brigades were at getty with one remaining brigade in the Washington defenses. Both brigades are found in the 5th corp.
Irish Brigade 2nd corps. 2nd corp in general was a great corp that by Getty had accumulated many losses and wasn't as powerful as its former self.
This is more than three, but you can take your pick. There were several exceptional union brigades. The problem was that the upper leadership was terrible.

Once again! I said experts ONLY
You sound like a..........I despise the Union
And experts became experts by reading and studying. Is it that farfetched to assume some people here did the same?
God darn. Holy testicles. All them people.

Re: Top Three Union Brigades
Without a doubt the Iron Brigade is on top. In my opinion most of the 1st Corps brigades were pretty solid by 63 as well. Cutlers brigade were a veteran unit who stood by the Iron Brigade at Brawners Farm in 62 and held off Jackson's entire corps. Any of the US Army regular brigades as well. In my personal opinion the Irish Brigade gets a bit too much attention.
I dont know much about southern units, I detest the Rebs.

Them's fightin' words. Talk like that could lead to a full scale Civil War... :laugh:I dont know much about southern units, I detest the Rebs.
