Origin of Forum Names

I live in Lancaster County, Pa. The heart of Amish country.

My great uncle, Harry Graham, used to publish books of poems etc under the pseudonym Col D Streamer in honour of his old regiment. I thought I would inherit the name from him and keep it alive.

My middle name is Norbert, so is my father's, so is my son's. My last name is Hungarian, Timpko and Norbert both came over from Hungary, though some people spell it Timko instead. I have no Hungarian blood (Italian and German), as I was adopted at birth, but it's still a great heritage!

My family on my father's side is also Hungarian. My father and his parents came to the US in the early 20's. We still keep in touch with our Hungarian relatives in Mezőkövesd. Some of them came here for a visit a couple years ago. Some of our family have made a trip to Hungary and are going again in the spring. Good to keep in touch with the old country. My last name is Nyeste. My grandfather was in the Hungarian horse cavalry. I remember him showing me how he was taught to sheath his saber at a gallop. My cousin still has my grandfather's cavalry saber.

Just tried to shorten up my name a little Richard Douglas Boles. My father was going to name me Pearl Francis Boles. But my mother said no and blurted out Richard Douglas from thin air as we have no Richards or Douglas's in our family history. Thank you mom. After about 37 years of searching out our family history I found out the Boles name comes from Ireland from a Joseph Boles 1650. So now I don't have to pretend once a year on St Patty's Day. I'm Irish and proud of it.

When I made my first e-mail account during the 90's I tried doing mikko.asikainen, m_asikainen and masikainen, which were all taken. then I substituted the S with a Z and it worked. The name stuck and became my nickname in real life too. Mikko is a very common name in Finland with more than one in nearly every group of people so calling me with a nickname makes more sense. The Finnish language doesn't have "z" natively so people still call me "masikainen" though, or "masikain" for my university UNIX handle

[Tacloban]

Tacloban was the airbase in Leyte, Philippine Islands, where my father's PV-1 squadron was based in March-April 1945. My avatar is a PV-1. I started using it in CFS2 forums.

Let's just say it's not a name that goes over well in SOW MP.
