Origin of Forum Names

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

If the C stood for Custer that would actually be funny.

1st NY Mounted Rifles is the unit my GG Grandfather served with for three years. He left the service and then reenlisted with the 22nd NY Cavalry that served for a time with Custer in the Shenandoah Valley.

He is mentioned in the official records:

He is mentioned in the Williamsburg, Va. Jan 24, 1864

He is referred to as "Captain Harmon"

It was the name I had when I played Halo 2 MP. Believe it or not, I have never been a Navy Seal.

I had a brain freeze and put 35th instead of 50th Georgia which the one my Grandaddy Thrift was in.Our family also lived in the area from which the 35th was formed,so no harm done.Proud of Texas also, but the Thrift history is where I learned to love the history and honor the men who fought.

I am 2nd Texas Infantry in honor of mt Great, Great Grandfather and Uncle who fought in Company D, 2nd Texas Infantry from Shiloh, Corinth, Chickasaw Bayou, vicksburg, to garrison duty on the coast of Texas. I grew up on the same land my family owned since 1850 and these gentlemen were buried 200 yards away from my house so I was interested in the War of Southern Independence at a real early age. Plus on the old forum there were just a ton of Yankee regimental names. Although French in heritige their first names were (Ozeniphore and Telesphore) It must do with the whole Greek revival period.

Chris G. cause it's a helluva lot less cumbersome than Christopher Allen Graves.

I originally used SolomonStrunkUSA for a Forum name going back to a couple years pre-CWBR, I think around 2002 and was one of the first to sign in here with that name in 2007. I used that name to honor my GGG Grandfather who fought in the War of the Southern Rebellion as they put it then. He lived in Eastern Tennessee and remained loyal to his country, as did most of the people in his region. In fact his county voted 541-19 against secession and did not recognize the secessionist state government, there is an interesting short history of it here >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Scott#History and a story here that shows the type of fighting they endured >>> http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/20 ... civil-war/

A few years ago I just decided to go by my real name which you now see here as my Forum name. I guess I just made a short story long.

Regards,

Gibson
