Battle of Sharpsburg, MP

Post by KG_Soldier »

Gentlemen (you too Mad One),

It's on.

30 December 2011, Friday, 18:00 CST (or sometime thereabout).

Any and all welcome.

Pick a side and fight the Battle of Sharpsburg.

We're hoping to set a record for most players in a MP game, 20 or more (hopefully).

All you'll need is the new Antietam (Sharpsburg) add-on.

Teamspeak will help but isn't required.

Should be a blast, literally.

RSVP here or just show up in the lobby or on Teamspeak.

Will definitely try to make it for this one! For those who haven't played MP, please come out and try it with us. A lot of fun and much more different than just fighting the AI. For those who have fought with us but haven't been in a big battle (more than 10-12 players), they are a blast!

PS: I think our record is around 22-24 players for a stable battle that was played to completion

Orders recieved, couriers dispatched. The boys will be on the road at first light!
I thought the record for a completed battle was 17?
Weve started a few with more than that but theyve never run the course...

I think you will like the Antietam MP scenario that's included. The OBJ's are first set to zero points and one hour a piece, so it's a race to get to the OBJ's (of course the Confederates have the edge because they hold most of them). Then at the 1 hour mark, the points come in.. :)

we had a 22 person battle (if i remember correctly) that ran to the last 5 minutes and then crashed in the summer so I'm counting that as completed :)

Just a heads up:
if we are trying to do the 11 hr scenario, Beef, Hancock and I tried last night and it crashed every time. Might have to do with beefs loading problems or mod conflicts but it may also be due to the amount of troops on the battlefield. We will see.

We just ran an MP game with 20 players (excellent game by the way) and i didn't really experience very much more lag than what's to be expected (we had players from all over the states and several of our British brothers were playing also). I think that in order to pull off an 11 hour 20+ player battle, that as long as everyone is on the same page with their GCM update, and aren't too heavily modded (i run the GCM and it's internal mods..trees and maps...and a toolbar mod), we should be ok. Also probably wouldn't hurt if everyone de-fragged, cleaned up old files, etc (a general policing of their rig) before jumping on the teamspeak server. Just my opinions, there are others here far more tchnically savvy and experienced than I, maybe they can chime in and correct me or advise more soundly than I can.
