I don't see what arguing just to argue is going to accomplish.

Is the MP community sincere? That needs to be weighed against what is and can be done.

If Davincis map comes out soon and Jenkins can be played in a large GCM battle then that should satisfy. I can only speak for myself.

If it wasn't for players like Garnier, Spoom, or Soldier MP wouldn't be what it is today. They have all stuck with it since the games release.

Norb has given us a great game.

Give to each his due.

Digby, why the resentment and bitterness toward GCM? Seems we're all in the same boat with the same goals: to keep MP at all levels and styles fresh and entertaining. As Soldier explained, advances in GCM benefit the entire MP community, whether one prefers HITS & Couriers, historical OOB's or GCM itself.

To answer your sub-question directly, a number of GCM'ers have Pipe Creek but it is true that it did not take off to the degree Antietam has. And as you surely know, when playing a GCM MP game, the community tries to accommodate EVERYONE who wants to play. I have never once heard a host tell someone he could not play because he doesn't have the map others want to play. So MP play does, in fact, turn into a "lowest common denominator" situation where everyone must have the maps being played. (Which illustrates another beauty of Garnier's system: His varients to the stock maps, through the launcher, are automatically available to all players.) In any event, this also explains why fewer games are played with the Antietam maps than the familiar Gettysburg layouts: In a given game of perhaps 15 or 20 there is often a player who is either very new or hasn't yet been able to afford the expansion. So, the point you were trying to make about fewer Antietam games is actually a reflection of the sportsmanship and inclusiveness of the community rather than what you imply.

The bottom line is that astute HITS & Couriers, historical OOB, and GCM players realize that everyone benefits from advances made in each of these MP formats, even if players never cross over from one to another. So arguments that tend to create hard feelings or a faux rivalry between them are worse than foolish.

I've picked up every new NSD release and eagerly await the next one. Here's hoping for the western theater! I would also love to see some multiplayer maps from Garnier.

I think there is a wide gap between non-historical maps put out by Garnier and the research, scenario design, historical maps, OOBs, and AI improvements that I've come to expect from NSD add-ons. I have no problem at all continuing to fill that gap with money.

To NSD's immense credit I'd also like to point out that I have never seen anyone on the team consider anything but the technical challenges of opening up the game.
