a hush lay upon the field
and the gray cried a river to blue
and with the wind the hush roared
that Legion of Mystery stepped again
with their colors torn

And the Devil sang with them

and boys laid where they fell
upon two and upon one and three
the shallow smoke grew thicker
and their hearts drew quicker

the cries to heaven unanswered
as were the cries for mother

with fire from the muzzles
they stepped forward with their line
from the rally
that Legion of Mystery
ahead
with their colors
burned and torn
into the palm of the Creators hand
