I am wondering how difficult it would be to code in all screenshots will save as .jpg's instead of .bmp's?

Is this already in the list of to-do's?

:)

There is only one call to this in the engine. Where I could change the call I think, there is no way to choose the type. So if I changed to jpg, it would only be jpg, no bmp anymore.

Hi Norb, and thanks for the reply.

The only reason why I thought to ask is that most forums (including NSD's) support .jpg, .gif, .png but not .bmp simply because the file size is just far too large to allow for an upload, and since all of the posts here require folks to convert over before uploading, I just thought of just cutting out the middle man (paint program for conversion), and have .jpg be the default screen save.

I posted this right after seeing folks trying to upload .bmp's, and I don't think they knew that they had to convert their .bmp's over. Just something I was thinking about.

Your call Sir, your the man so whatever you decide will be good. :)

Do a poll, see what you find out.

Automatically saving as jpg means the screenshots are always lower quality. PNG is the best since it's smaller but doesn't lose any quality. But between jpg and bmp, stay with bmp.

Good suggestion Garnier, PNG is the better solution then. All forums that I am aware of allow .png uploads.

My Vote: PNG

Cool. :)

Isn't that the truth saddletank.

Why not have an option in the SOWgb.ini that would allow you to choose what type you wish to have your screenshots.

Example:

[Custom]
ailvl=0
moralelvl=0
regstrength=100
plyrradius=0
courierlvl=0
minimap=2
MPplyrradius=0
MPcourierlvl=0
MPminimap=2
Screenshot=jpeg or =gif or =png

If there is nothing present for a type it would just default to .bmp. Then when the game reads the .ini it now knows what format to dump the screenshot as.

Just a thought.

I just realized something. I use Fraps for recording games from time to time, and I never took a look at the Screenshot option. It offers you the choice of what you wish your screenshots to be. Just start fraps, go to screenshots, and pick your poison (.bmp, .jpg, .gif, etc).

Here I go talking out of my butt again!
