Creating a "Can't beat a fresh Cat Turd" Realism Mod.

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Creating a "Can't beat a fresh Cat Turd" Realism Mod.

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

I was looking at my "Death of Your Commander" mod, and I am wanting to remove the ability to save a game meaning when you activate the mod, it will turn off the save game option this way if you die on the battlefield, you have to start it all over again from scratch.

I already have turned off the "Return to Battle" option in the debriefing screen, would the save game option be in the gscreens.csv as well?

Right on RB - unlike most mods this one has a huge legal team behind it

Ok, ok...I can't bogart the phrase 'realism' but I've been over sensitive since you shot down my 'Bugles and Bags' mod :(

I thought there was a niche out there for ACW satchel graphics, but you just had to ruin it...

Haaaaa, it's missing the two things that I am thinking about, one if you die, you can't go back to the battle (already done), and another is you can't save while playing the game so if you die you can't save the game while you are playing it...

Mine has nothing to do with the battle mechanics, it's all about once you start playing the game with this mod, you better not die on the battlefield. Outside of that I haven't a clue, that is why you guys are the big boys...you have the brain trust.

AH, the name, mine would be called... "can't beat a fresh cat turd".

I did forgot about your version, sorry about that guys, never meant to step on the lower digits.

You could mod the files that control the popup menu to remove the save game line. However this can be easily defeated by using the autosave option from the Options screen which cannot be modded.

Hi Jim. Yeah your right, I was looking at it, and the autosave would make the point of the mod pointless, unless there was a way to disable the autosave as well. The whole point of this small edit would be to turn SOW into a game that if you die, there is no way to replay that sandbox battle again, you will be forced to play a new battle.

It would be no different if you played Minecraft at the most difficult setting, and if you die, the map gets wiped.

At first when I saw the Realistic option in the game menu settings I was thinking that you guys added those settings that would #1: If you die you could not respawn, #2: Saves/Autosaves/Start up Save are disabled, and #3: Sandbox Battle/scenario would be wiped.

It makes sense to have a setting of this sort, this way you have to be more careful with how you move about, be more careful of your commander. Personally I never liked the respawn function, because SOW is about the best you are going to get for battlefield realism, having the respawn function just takes away from the simulators authenticity as a realistic game.

To me that is realism, I would hate to be in a battle after two hours a stray or lucky shot kills me...but that is the price you pay for being in battle in the first place.

Anyway, this is something I always wanted for SOW.

Thanks Jim for the reply.
