Castle
Castle
Caught the end of a show I really enjoyed first time round late last night. It's a series of documentaries on medieval fortifications.
It is really worth a look if there are any medieval history fans lurking on the forum...
I know the earth was flat back then, and the American continent didn't exist, but give it a look :silly:

Re: Castle
Just watched it in it's entirety, magnificent. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
When I was in Germany in the army, I explored and toured every castle I could find...every one had it's own MAGIC, not to mention history. Neuschwanstein in Fussen was the most impressive, got some great shots. I think it was the last castle built in Europe, really had no history, never was a fortification...just a showpiece for the crazy Ludwig der Sweite. Still, some history, as Richard Wagner stayed there and wrote much of his music, influenced by those surroundings. The music of Wagner inspired my musical upbringing as a youth, and I still get chills listening to his BRASS dominant compositions.
Thanks for sharing, the English heritage of castles is indeed remarkable and magical.

Hitler also liked nature walks, FUSSWALKEN...so, off with their heads, all those dratted NATURE WALKERS.

Re: Castle
RB - A show called Battle Castle started on one of the Brit Discovery channels this week. Hosted by Dan Snow an up and coming Brit historian. Search for the website.
The first episode was about Krak de Chevaliers in Syria. An entertaining show. Will be covering six or so significant sieges.

Yeah, caught this one before posted somewhere here, and it is indeed hilarious, and profound. Just watched it again, it's also a great rerun...this guy doesn't get old, you hear stuff you missed every time, least I do.

Glad you liked it
He did this whole series starting from the earliest Motte and Baileys up till the invention of gunpowder. All of them are probably online somewhere.
And he's a very likeable historian too - with a good sense of humour.
nature walkers - lol.
