The problem with artillery is that they can run while exhausted.

The game already allows multiplying the amount of fatigue guns get from crossing rough terrain, but you can still double quick them forever. Still, it's pretty mod-able as is, so what we have now isn't bad. To really penalize artillery moving through woods, I'd need to make them take longer to rest.

I love how the stock game can be modded. Having done lots of modding there are some things that would be good to modify/have control of that currently arent possible:
1) Auto charging on/off
2) Formation fire modifier (the column in drills doesnt seem to do anything)
3) Formation melee modifier (same as above)
4) Formation can be flanked yes/no
5) A formation ability that prohibits breaking into combat (e.g. square)
6) One more reserved uniform type per formation to allow for other poses, e.g. kneeling when in skirmish formation
7) Formation casualty modifier

Then there are some core game changes that could be possible improvements (mostly thoughts from modding):
1) AI to use more formations, attack column, smirmish etc based on situation
2) Artillery to not fire over head or near freindly units
3) Units to space out more, theres too much firing through each other when units are large
4) Charged test, does the unit stay and fight or run away?
5) 250 sprite battalions = 1000 men B)
6) Pick target to charge
7) Charging test, does the unit keep going if shot at or stop to fire back?

To name but a few things.

1) Auto charging on/off
I respectfully request a slider bar or set of distance options at which autocharge can be set, with a minimum of about 10 yards.

Please seriously consider this as a more powerful way to influence the next generation of the game.

So many great ideas. The idea of periphery casualties in compact formations is fantastic and very historic. Long range cannon didn't necessarily target specific units, but areas where each shell had the potential for the optimal damage.

My only primary suggestion would be to see some threat of commander casualties. It was such a critical factor in Civil War command control during combat.
Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious :)

 Do I detect a hint of sarcasm. :P

Sure, stuff gets tabled, going to Future Depot. In what reality do we always get everything we ask for?

But it sure is sweet when stuff gets looked at, tested and passes through the Golden Patch Gate as a fix or feature. :)
