This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Need help with downloading Mod

Post by cliometrician »

I had to reinstall my game a while back and I would like to install Garnier's Textured Minimap Mod, but I can't seem to do it. I played with this mod for years, but now I can't even get it to show up in my Modifications list to check.

I use WinZip. I copied the mod into my NorbSoftDev SOW Gettysburg folder, extracted the mod there, but nothing shows up in my list. I tried the same thing in my Mods folder. No luck. I've doublechecked the extraction and it appears I'm using the correct folder, but something's wrong.

What step am I missing??

Hey, how is everything going!

1) This should have been posted in the Mod Section: (i.e...Mod Related)

2) Reb posted a while back that extracting files directly into the game sometimes causes problems. I always extract them onto the Desktop and then move them into the game.

3) Are you sure that you are placing the Mod into the correct directory. To put that another way, how many copies of the game do you have Installed?

4) Can you take a picture of your games directory and post it here?

To take a picture : Press the PrtScr button : Then Open Microsoft Paint and press the Ctrl and the V key at the same time.

Double check that it is indeed in the Mods folder, in folder form and not zipped. Any folder there will show up in Modifications. Make sure a period is not in the name.

Hello again Davinci! I am giving up for tonight anyway. I simply can not get the Textured Minimaps to show up in my Modifications list. I have "Map Screen" and "Small Couriers and Maps" in the list to click on, but I prefer the Textured Minimaps and they simply do not appear. I have followed what you and RebBugler said, but I can't figure out the problem.

I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks guys.

cliometrician - OK, I'm glad that it didn't Install, that really would have caused a problem.

I downloaded the mod to see if I was missing something, pertaining as to why it wouldn't work for you.

The Mod is located in two folders.

The first folder is called Base .

And inside of that folder is another one called Maps .

These are two default folders that cannot be replaced !...Thinking...sort of confused, here!

OK......This will work!

1) Download the file (mod) again, and save it to the Desktop , or where-ever you can locate it after downloading it.

2) Extract the Mod - so that you see a folder called Base and in that folder you will see a folder called Maps .

3) Right Click - on the Base folder that you just extracted - and a menu will pop-up.

4) Select Rename and name the Base Folder to cliometrician

5) Now you should have a folder called cliometrician , and inside of that folder you should have a folder called Maps .

6) Drag \ Drop \ Push \ Pull - ( I was being amusing...My Bad).....Place the folder into the SOW \ Mods folder, which-ever way is easier.

7) Start Game - and activate the Mod called cliometrician and the Jump Maps will work!

The order is everything. If you want to use mini-maps other than those in Courier & Maps, move the mod that contains your preferred maps below the Courier & Maps mod in the Modification screen. Click on the mod you want to move to highlight it and then use the up/down arrows at the bottom of the screen to move it.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
