Great link, Amish John.
The Second South Carolina Regimental String Band is my favorite period band, hands down. Their CDs make the best road traveling music.
Music Theme
Re:Music Theme
Alright folks,
i'm gonna depart just a little from the CW music.
How about when marching a Division to the battle field....
play some Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" as in one of my best all time favorite movies 'Apocolypse Now'
"Saigon, shit. I'm still only in Saigon. Every time I think I'm going to
wake up back in the jungle...
I was going to the worst place in the world, and I didn't even know
it yet. Weeks away and hundreds of miles up a river that snaked
through the war like a main circuit cable and plugged straight into
Kurtz.....
"We'll come in low, out of the rising sun, and about a mile out,
we'll put on the music... Yeah, I use Wagner -- scares the hell
out of the @#$%^&! My boys love it !"
Might not be authentic CW music but it sure gets the blood rising!! B)

Re:Music Theme
Very much so, Getty will be user freindly modding
you will be able to add music maybe not use 3 different ones at once for the intro etc..
but it will be easy to mod the game
heres a [out of place] a little sneek into what i'm doing
very serene i'm not shooting for a bunch of different sounds in-game
you will get a feeling of sitting in the woods hunting, normal troop sounds - no music, no heavy amp sounds
just you and the battle sounds and while in game
after playing for hrs on end day after day, i think a bunch of sounds will just get annoying after weeks of having the game..

Vonviper,
I heartily approve of your toned down sounds. I appreciate the sounds of jostling caissons, equipment rattling a bit on a march and the odd bird calls. Hearing only the low tamping sounds of feet or the occasional whistle of a bird before the enemy is sighted just builds suspense and anticipation in my mind. Will the sounds have a "zooming in" quality, where the closer you are to a unit the more prevalent the sounds?
One sound I hated in TCSM was the sound of canister, not because it was a bad sound per se, but that it meant one of my stupid units had just wandered into grapeshot range of artillery and was getting mauled. I think my blood pressure spiked a few points every time I heard that sound.
In the Civil War series that was on PBS, the producer (Ken Burns) described how he would layer sound upon sound to create the atmosphere that infused so much depth into the series. The sounds literally brought still pictures to life. To top it off the rich tones of Shelby Foote's southern voice produced a music all in itself.

Re:Music Theme
Yes Sir,Dale
i want to recreate the time 1860's
mostly the things you would hear if we lived in the time frame
not saying i won't have unique sounds i want to try and envelope the player in the sounds of troops, wagons, horses, gun fire, cannons, Ambient etc..the canister sound will still be used but with a sound that will be much better tolerated.. like most other sounds will hopefully be..
Now i know some say hey, they had drummers some horns etc...specially with reanacting gettyburg but the real gettysburg battle happened once and most reanactors recreate the battle once a year..we will be playing for hrs and hrs day after day, just makes since to me..
i think making a smooth base Sound folder will serve the Sound Modders out there much better.
remember Norb is Coding Getty to be user friendly so if things aren't to ones liking then there you go, mod to your hearts content.....
Peace
