10 Mile Map 1 and 2 - Released

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Howdy, all,

2 silly questions about the beautiful, challenging 10-mile map:

a.) What software/code did you use to make it? I'm fixing to open a thread about making new battlefield maps, this is why I'm interested.

b.) I've been all over it in Sandbox, but I have no more idea than the cat does how to make a user scenario with it. Other maps have been added to the stock game maps (Prairie Grove, Val Verde, etc.), but the Scenario Generator file (which I have open in Excel) does not list the 10 mile map.

Hey, Welcome to the Forums:
Norb, opened up the maps for a small group of modders roughly a year and a half ago.

The map was made using the tools from the Power Render Program , just like the maps that are made in the default game from the same tools (i.e…Program).

b.) Other maps have been added to the stock game maps (Prairie Grove, Val Verde, etc.), but the Scenario Generator file (which I have open in Excel) does not list the 10 mile map.
As far as I know, this map was not used by the Scenario Generator , I think due to its size.

This map can be quite demanding on a lot of computers.

I have absolutely no knowledge on how Scenarios are made, so I can’t really help you with that question.

Does anyone know how to add the 10 mile map to the
scenario generator mod. This would really make epic battles.
Maybe, someone should contact the creator of the scenario generator mod
and ask him how to add the 10 mile map to the scenario generator or to the next release?

@Bob64 - hey, if you still play on the 10MileMap I can try to get you the copy that I play with, it's the same Version as the last one, just with more structures and farm names added.

Basically, it now has 34 farm names and ninty plus more structures added, also has slightly different trees.

The frame-rates are roughly the same, adding houses doesn't seem to affect the rates that much as long as the houses are sort of scattered.

I'll try to get it posted by this weekend. I forgot to add that I added about a thousand more fences.

Negative on Me knowing how to add it to the Scenario Generator .

I would assume that the Scenario Generator will use the coordinates of the map to place the units, these coordinates are different than the default maps.

I'm not even sure what the exact coordinates are for this map. I would have to use the PowerRender Map-Making-Tool to find out that information.

Not sure how many have tried this map in MP, but we managed to choke the frame rate down to basically nothing with 3 players using a OOB from the Peninsular mod. Total soldiers about 110,000 sprite count set at 10 to 1. Other settings were backed off also to the recommended draw ranges. Basically the map looked like a flat prairie until you got close.

Map is huge, after 50 min when she finally just could not handle it, we had yet to fully reach our chosen deployment area and all troops were past exhausted and we did not even pass the 1/4 mark on the map.
