10 Mile Map 1 and 2 - Released

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I finally got the map working.

There are issues with how my system handles exes form this site. (dozens of other sites work fine.)

I started a new thread under bugs to chronicle my experience.

c:\users\myuser\downloads\SOWGB10_MileMapV2.exe
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
I'm not sure but why would it be a .exe on the Map file?

Also, not sure why there is a hyphen I only remember 10MileMapV2

Did you have any problems with any of the other Maps that you downloaded?

The installer is the .exe file and is causing this virus flagged issue.

Ten-Four , now I understand.

I'm so use to downloading everything onto the Desktop and operating from there that I'm unfamiliar with any other way of doing things.

It had been a frustrating time and I misplaced the underscore in the file name, it should have been SOWGB_10MileMapV2.exe. :(

As I keep a guest user on my computer, I take advantage of administrative oversight, downloading to the C:\username\download folder is the default setting for Firefox, and never caused a problem before, it was my failure to notice the AV had quarantined it that caused the unable to find error.

Once I readjusted the priority order of the mods the map ran beautifully.

Thank you for such a wonderful enhancement to my gaming experience.

I use the Napoleonic mods a lot and I noticed a difference when I played corps v corps on the Gettysburg map, and the on the 10 mile map. So I did an experiment: a sqd of cav marching, moving using the roads. On the Gettysburg map at walking speed the endurance bar went down almost imperceptibly. When using the 10 mile map it dropped like a rock, I stopped the unit, waited until recovered to 'weary' and did 4 45deg turns and the unit was exhausted.

I opened the 10MileMapV2.cvs file and saw all the 'Fatigue Penalty's were set to -10, woods, road, everything. Is this intentional? Can it be changed?

My Bad !

That is how I play and test the map, and always forget to change the values back to how everyone else plays the game.

If you can post the csv file here, I'll change it and post it back here.

If you know how to edit it, you can use one of the default maps that is located in the SDK to get the default values for each terrain movement penalty.

Thanks again for the beautiful map, I am not unfamiliar with what is involved in this project. I did some map making in the Sid Myers Gettysburg successors, Waterloo and Austerlitz. Those required .csv files to place terrain, elevations and features, every map pixel on a grid, it was, shall we say, involved.

I did attempt to change those assigned values but when I started the game it crashed the details cited a time stamp error, that appeared to involve the ini file. I deleted the changed file and moved the original file back ( always back up before a change  ) and the map launched fine.

So I did another experiment, I opened the back-up ( located outside the SOW file ) and without changing a thing, did a Save As replacing the then working file in the 10milemap folder. The resulting crash again cited a time stamp error. Restoring the original file once again got the map working.

From what I am getting it appears to be more related to the installer. Does the installer generate the ini? I did notice a pause while installing and the progress bar was showing something related to an ini.

I hope this helps in locating the fix for the problem.

This one is dated 3-1-2013 so I'm not sure if it is the correct one.

Download to the Desktop - Extract the file - and place in the 10MileMapV2 \ Map - folder.

I changed all of the values to either a -1 and for the roads a 0 .

I'll check back after work to answer any other questions.

*** This is only the (csv) file that controls the movement speeds.

Thanks, for the comments on the map.

Thanks Davinci

I took a close look at the original file and the one I changed. The size on disk was different. My file was larger even though I only changed values and did not add anything. So I got thinking... I've been using open office for so long, it is second nature to me.

I rummaged through my old disks and loaded Microsoft Office Professional 97. ( I stopped using Microsoft because it fired up a lot of TSR's and left them after exiting ) ( I was reluctant to load Office 97 because it installs a faulty dll that has to be manually replaced ) Anyway, I redid my changes in Excell the size of this file now matched the original, restarted SOW and the 10milemap with changes worked just fine.

So the fault was mine, does anyone know how to save Open Office .csv that is compatible with 10milemap?

I have no knowledge of the Open Office, but I think that several prople here use it.

Did the file that I posted not solve the problem that you were having?

These csv files can be opened and edited with notepad, but it's a lot harder getting the infomation in the correct columns.

But, this is a very simple request, if you like I could add a zero in all of the columns that pretains to the movement penalties. That will not be a problem.

Greetings

I have been using this great map, just downloaded it, been using Hooker's Chancellorsville OOB.', playing army vs. army, with HITS.me playing Hooker. There still is a problem with this map for combat operations, is there a patch for this map?, to make it normal and useable for combat.
