Hi Generals,

last week i heard about the game "Histwar les Grognards", its a game like SOW but not that good :-)

however, they are developing a 1:1 scale of the soldiers (in 3D), and it would be possible to get 500.000 Soldiers on the Battlefield... :)

so my question is, is it possible to to this with gettysburg? SOW has only polygons...and Histwar 3D.

I want to see the Ironbrigade in 1:1 ;)

Greetings

I have Les Gronards it took 10 years to develop out - one guy (JMM) on his own did the work - hell of a achievement the game play is completely different to sow however based more on strategy and table top gaming - but It's enjoyable to idle a way a few hours - Best napoleonic game out there (please no one mention Napoleonic total war! - still not forgiven them for burning HMS Victory! :angry: ). I believe the 1v1 mod works by tricking the computer into thinking that its a ratio of 1/10 and duplicating the sprite graphic to produce a 1/1 scale looks impressive - However I would imagine that that kind of ratio for SOW would be difficult due to the memory requirements I tried it for TC2M a while back and unit control was very difficult and the maps too small also AI didnt cope well - obviously more scope in SOW and AI is better so never say never
I only know two tunes...One's "Yankee Doodle" and the other one isn't!

Also we are throwing around the idea of having the new map team create 1:1 scale maps. It would be very cool to have a 1:1 Little Round Top map.
That would be cool!

I know this thread is incredibly old, but I'm interested in creating a revolutionary war mod with 1:1 scale/sprite ratios; where the in-game "regiments" would be used as actual 1:1 scale companies, in-game "brigades would be used as battalions/regiments, "divisions" as brigades and so on.. anyone who would be interested in helping in this or who has information on how to properly implement this.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also playing with the Iron brigade in SR:1 sounds like it would be awesome. I've searched far and wide and can't seem to find a mod like that anywhere. If anyone knows where that can be obtained, that would be helpful aswell and i would greatly appreciate it, thanks a ton, in advance. :silly:

Hi Longstreet

There's no reason you cannot do this, and that's the approach I use in my Little Bighorn scenario, with the 7th Cavalry operating at company level, and the various battalions under Benteen, Reno etc operating as 'brigades' in game terms. The sprite ratio is also 1:1, which works fine.

I think I have your email address somewhere, so I'll send you the OOB, so you can see how I approach it. It's still a work in progress though :)

Just a quick query seeing as we're focused on SR1.

If you're using SR1 OOBs does anything need to be tweaked other than the sprite ratio in options? LP mentioned some sandbox ini tweaks?

I want to make sure the 1836 mod covers what it needs to in terms of files incl and the Readme.

Thanks Martin hah definitely send me that! :lol: I'd love to check it out. maybe at some point you could share some of your modding experience with me, Its basically alien to me right now, but im learning slowly, I've been going through all the logistics files and stuff, I'm trying hard to figure it out hah

and hey again Crikey lol, i was going to ask you about this as I've been testing your mod which is 1:1 scale. I have to say i don't have any answers for you as I'm very new at this and only getting started figuring things out myself. But what i can tell you, is that the sprite ratio being set to 1 seems to make things work perfectly in your mod, as I've gone through and counted the sprites in the companies/("regiments") and they seem to be dead on, a unit that has 34 men has 34 sprites, the units that have 52 men had ~52 sprites, units that had 80-something men had ~80-something sprites and so-on.

I wasn't aware of anything else, Crikey. Games seem to run ok as far as I can see. But then I'm not a very informed modder :blush:

So I will be very interested if LP does have any further comments on this.

I'm not too sure if this applies to what you are asking, but looking at the Work \ Scenarios \ Sandbox file it does have two files listed below.

scen_Army1
scen_Army2

Which does contain the following:

[MenPerSprite]
Inf=10
Cav=10

But, I'm not sure how that would be modded into a Open Play Game.....without affecting the regular game.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!

Well if it means bringing Colorado (and hence MTG) back to his rightful allegiance, I'm all for it ;)
