NorbSoftDev Review

Post by Ingles of the 57th »

HI

This morning I got a pop-up window on this website with a young lady inviting me to participate in a review of the operation of the website. The message contained all your normal website graphics and looked plausible.

Is this genuine or a cover for some sort of intrusion ? I naturally ignored it and would advise others to do the same if it occurs.

Sounds like something nasty on your PC. If you have Malwarebytes, then run it. If not I suggest downloading it and using it every couple of months as it really is an excellent piece of software and has saved my neck from virues and nasty things several times.

Hi,

I run Malwarebytes, Avast Virus Check and Super Anti-Spyware weekly. Nothing has emerged suggesting a specific problem.

I am a little suspicious of Firefox though. I will reload it tomorrow.

Hi Folks,

Just an update. Might be useful if a similar thing comes your way.

A couple of weeks ago I received a normal-looking e-mail purporting to come via g-mail from my neighbour who was visiting her son in New York. This e-mail was not genuine.

It must clearly have passed on a trojan of some kind as my browser (Firefox) started to put up a regular series of rubbish pop-up adverts and requests to report on the performance of web sites visited (including norbsoftdev). I also noted a number of spurious hyperlinks in any text content downloaded including the SOW forum posts.

I have reloaded Firefox clean (i.e not saving any settings) and the problem seems to have gone. None of my virus program deep scans have detected any residual virus so it must have been of the "run once and delete" variety.

Ingles of the 57th If you still have any issues open up your control panel and select programs (or Programs and features) when this opens up check that you don't have any sneaky adware programs that have installed. Easiest way is to check the install date column and if there are any recent installs you are not familiar with delete them - I have had a couple recently that piggy backed on when I upgraded my google and java updates and they very annoyingly snook past my ever present firewall

Thanks Zeke,

I do keep a tight watch on the programs but thanks for the advice.

I know how these b*******s shove unbidden all sorts of things on your computer like home pages and search bars. Avast goes even further and downloads and installs Google Chrome without a by-your-leave.

The download agencies seek to confuse by slipping additional programs into the download screens that you have to watch like a hawk when completing. Several times I have got a quite different product from the one I thought I had asked for.

My latest problem did not introduce any .exe program in a form that WINDOWS could detect and display as such.
