New to SOW Gettysburg

Post by therealpete »

Hello everyone

I used to play 2nd manassas and enjoyed it a lot, but that was a few years ago. Recently I reinvestigated war gaming and saw that there was now SOW Gettysburg so I picked it up. Needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed, hard to get used to the courier system... Whats the best way of learning this game? Or at least familiarizing myself with it. I'd like to eventually play multiplayer, but until then I would really like to get a good grasp on the game mechanics first. And why is my camera so tightly restricted to my commander? Do I have to move my commander around the map to see what I need to see? I recall in 2nd manassas being able to freely move the camera around as needed...

Anyways any tips/comments appreciated, thank you

Pete

Welcome Aboard!

A lot of us here are from the other forum.

The courier system is without a doubt the best new feature of this game, but it does take a while to get the full understanding of it.

The camera moves freely just as in the previous game, so you might have to adjust the settings a bit.

Make sure that the Camera stay with OOB \ Navigation is unchecked in the second page of the Options-Screen.

Someone else probably knows more about that than I do and will offer their advice.

Thank you for the warm response Davinci,

I made sure that the 'Camera stay with OOB' was unchecked, alas my camera is still restricted to my commander...

Make sure you haven't hit the "F" key which forces the camera to follow the commander

If this is a scenario that you are playing the camera might be set that way to restrict your viewing distance.

I have never played a scenario so someone else will have to explain this better than I can.

Also - there have been quite a few discussions about the courier-command on the forums over the past few years, you may wish to see if a search turns up anything.

I'll also try to find some of them and post them here.

[ EDIT Post] to add this.....

Well, this was faster than expected.....someone has already grouped a lot of the post for you.

All of the Difficulty settings in Options beyond Normal restrict the camera movement...try Normal if this is your issue.
