Largest (and favorite) SOW map?

Post by JohnVW »

assuming you had access to all the avail MODS, which SOW map:

- is the "largest"?
- and which one do you enjoy playing on the most?

i'm building a new scenario and will be playing online with friends, and we tend to enjoy large scale maps...thanks!

turns out it's too big (10x10) for the scenario generator, BUT we can use it for sandbox games!

'Alpine' is the next biggest as far as I am aware - it should be in-game already.

If your system can handle it you can download a more detailed version of the Alpine map here

Apart from the 10 mile map mod, you have 2.5 x 2.5 and 5 x 5 mile maps. To answer the question which of the 5x5mile maps is the largest I don't have an answer, though  .

It really depends on what type of scenario setting you have in mind. For example: Should it be flat (Random Maps 6 mod) or hilly (Pipe Creek), with lots of woods (Chancellorsville), do you need a creek, a river, lots of fences, a city, etc ...
It is also important where are the forces starting from, what are their most possible movements, what line of sight do they have?
I play in HITS mode, so knowing and using the terrain layout is both key to success and also a lot of fun.

I usually launch a sandbox and fly over the terrain to take a look where it could be fitting nicely. In the options you can set how fast your camera can move over the map, so you can cover it in short time.

Other than the 10x10 mile map, all 5x5 maps are the same size, there is no "largest" of them. They are all 4x as big as the 2.5x2.5 maps, of course.
Play Scourge of War Multiplayer! www.sowmp.com
Also try the singleplayer carryover campaign

downloaded this as well (thanks)...but I can't get this into the scenario creator, this looks like it will only be used in sandbox games as well (like the 10x10)

i'd assumed that all 5x5 maps obv had 25 sectors, but maybe each sector in some maps were larger than others...
