Defending objectives - starting positions and direction facing in sandbox

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Defending objectives - starting positions and direction facing in sandbox

Post by Crikey »

Sandbox

A map has a river running down the center N to S. I want an objective in the mapname.csv to be a crossing point E to W.

On loading, I want defending forces to be within striking distance of that objective. However, I don't want the defending forces to be split either side of the river facing N to S, which then has to be remedied manually, I want them all on one bank facing the other side i.e. E to W or vice versa.

Is there a way to force deployment in sandbox to face a particular direction, or a way to retain an objective on a river bank but stop deployment being split on opposite banks?

Apologies if I'm missing the obvious.

For MP, unfortunately not. It is a real shortcoming of the game whenever setting up scenarios. For SP you could place the troops where you want and script the AI to do whatever you need it to do. Of course that removes any surprise value.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

MTG thanks. Feared as much. A shame. Sounds like I'll have to move Sandbox objectives way back from key crossing points. Odd.

I also have some queries linked to allocating different languages to factions, like the KS Nap Mod. Basically, I want the two main factions to have the same language commands but the Brits (using the Brit formations/toolbars) to have their own deployment commands. Any ideas how this might be done?

I'm not sure I understand your question. The KS Nappy toolbar does that. The French and Allies use mostly the same formations while the Brits use their own. The mod allows there to be Prussians and Brits on one side, each using their own specific formations, (e.g. 3 rank and 2 rank respectively). Toolbars are tied to unit classes in unitglobal, so it's easy to have different formations for different countries.

MTG - Thanks. Yes, I was a bit perplexed too.

I figured it out. I was reinstating the Brit formations. That was all fine but I hadn't put in a separate commander structure specific to the Brits via unitglobal which then read across to the OOB. So it wasn't triggering when I chose particular commands. Doh!
