Yes, fascinating. Great archaeology work to identify the remains. It seems he has no living descendants? That is a shame. I wonder if they will re-inter him on the battlefield or send them back to his home town, if that is known.

Yeah very interesting, especially since they found the actual musket ball that killed him.
Seems like every few years or so, remains are found at one of the many civil war battlefields in the U.S. They found remains of an unknown soldier in the cornfield at Antietam a few years ago. Could have been Union or Confederate because both sides sustained many casualties there.. If you asked me, more likely Union since most of the Confederate casualties were sustained just south of the cornfield for the early morning fighting, and north of it for Hood's counterattack.
